\ THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1938 Eminent Citizens To Address Mass Meeting For Peace The program to consider means for maintaining peace sponsored by the â€" Allâ€"Chicago Woman‘s Mass Meeting for Peace, is receiving exâ€" tensive publicity and favorable comâ€" ment. From as far distant as Deâ€" tive to organizing for peace. Plans for meetings in downstate communiâ€" ties are coming in daily. Obviously, peace is discussed widely by people characteristic of all groups regardâ€" less of color, creed or race. And it is on this basis that the Woman‘s Mass Meeting for Peace was arâ€" ranged. . , The three major addresses wil be delivered by such eminent and public spirited citizens as the Hon. Jeanette Rankin, Mrs. Arthur Wilâ€" liams, and Dr. Preston Bradley. The latter needs no introduction. He is known throughout this counâ€" try and abroad for his humanitarâ€" ian activities, and his fearlessness in the pulpit. Mrs. Arthur Williams of Norâ€" mal, Illinois, was formerly a resiâ€" Miss Jeanette Rankin is journeyâ€" ing from Washington to contribute her share toward further enlightâ€" ening the public on the possibilities of preserving the peace. The meeting is set for Wednesâ€" day, February 23, at 1:30 p.m. at the People‘s church, 941 Lawrence avenue. Communal singing will be a feature. All are welcome. No adâ€" mission. Auxiliary Visits Great Lakes Hospital The American Legion auxiliary will hold a social meeting tonight (Thursday) in the Legion hall. Last Friday afternoon, Mrs. Saâ€" lor Shanafelt, mbiliufion chairâ€" man, and |memi ‘of the Legion auxiliary visited Hospital 105 at Great Lakes for the February birthâ€" day party. Cards were played durâ€" ing the afternoon and a large birthâ€" day cake was presented to those whose "birthdays fall ‘dufing the month. S The Junior members will hold a card party, Friday evening, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Legion hall. Prizes and refreshments will feaâ€" ture the evening. The General Electwics defeated Lincolnwood 34â€"16 in a North Shore League game played in Evanston last Sunday. ‘The Electrics were never in danger, holding a 16 to 5 lead at half time. _ ~Next Sunday the Electrics will play Rand McNally at 4 o‘clock, at the Boltwood Fieldhouse in Evansâ€" Deerfield Garden Club To Hear Miss Bolt, Feb. 22 The garden department of the Deerfield Woman‘s club will present Miss Ruth Bolt, laboratory ant in botany, Lake Forest{college, wey ov seov qoin alt uit arecrutid grammar school. Miss Bolt (Mrs. John Palm now, as she is a recent bride), will speak on "Introduction of New Plants Into the United States." Mrs. Carl Frick, chairâ€" man of the garden department of the club, is in charge of the proâ€" gram. . As February 22 is a holiday, the meeting will adjourn without tea after the lecture. on Tuesday, March 1, to which all members of the club aré invited. Each will bring her favorite dish for a pot luck luncheon at 1 o‘clock. Plans are progressing for the "Fun Day" at the home of Mrs, Walter Metcalf, County Line road, Free Momberg Of Manslaughter Charge A jury in the Lake county Cirâ€" cuit court of Judge Ralph J. Dady at Waukegan last night found Harâ€" ry Momberg, 26 years old, of Rockâ€" fod, not guilty of manslaughter. Momberg was the driver of an automobile that collided with anâ€" other in Highland Pflk on Nov. 25. Arthur Orsi and his wife, Luâ€" cille, of 1200 Deerfield road, Highâ€" land Park, were killed. Policemen testified that Momberg was intoxâ€" icated, and two physicians upheld this diagnosis. Momberg claimed he had drunk only two glasses of beer and that he was not at fault in the collision. He had been tried previously on a manslaughter charge in connecâ€" tion with Orsi‘s death, the case reâ€" sulting in disagreement. The trial yesterday was on the charge of killâ€" ing Mrs, Orsi. Lineups : Community Garden Class Meets Feb. 22 The Community Garden class of the Highland Park Woman‘s club will meet at the home of Mrs. Clara A. Lloyd, 1125 S. Linden avenue, Tuesday, February 22 at 2 o‘clock, with Mrs. William Hoermann and Mrs. Charles Sanborn as coâ€"hosâ€" tesses.. There will be a round table discussion with a Question Box and Answers, and those present will get much practical information concernâ€" ing their gardens in this interesting way. _ Nonâ€"members are welcome upon payment of the small guest fee. Adult Education News The handicraft exhibit from Milâ€" waukee will be in the English Club room at the high school until next Tuesday, We urge ewpryone to make an effort to see this excellent display. The enrollment for the second term has now reached a total of 425. The attendance record for this term has been approximately 85 percent of the total enrollment. This is the best attendance figure that has ever been attained â€"inâ€"Adâ€" When one considers that 60 per cent is considered an excellent averâ€" age, it can readily be seen that Adult classes are really being apâ€" preciated here. + Dr. Tracy Strevey of Northwestâ€" ern, who was so enthusiastically received this fall, . has already agreed to give a new series of lecâ€" tures during the fall term. This news should insure a recordâ€"breakâ€" ing attendance on the Current Afâ€" fairs group in October. HighJand Parkers should visit our craft classes on Monday and Wednesday evenings, to see the inâ€" teresting things that are being made in Woodwork, Metal Work, Leathâ€" erwork, and Pottery. 4 Badminton, held on Mo&dly and Wednesday evenings, is gradually becoming one of the most popular classes on the program. Because of the dance next Monâ€" day evening in the boys‘ gym, there will be no class in basketâ€" ball.
