Delights Ravinia â€" Woman‘s Club with Pioneer Pictures On March 9th, the Ravinia Womâ€" an‘s club enjoyed some fascinating slides which Mr. Earl H. Reed showâ€" ed in connection with his talk on "Pioneer Architecture in the Chiâ€" cago Region." Many. of the pictures showed the City of Chicago from 1840 on, including homes, hotels, and churches. Others covered resiâ€" dences in Galena, Peoria, St. Charles, and other communities, most construction of the period showing a decided Grecian influâ€" ence. Many of Mr. Reed‘s listeners felt as he did: "Our present buildâ€" ing should look like today not 1840, but we can‘t resist the charm and beauty of that period." Mr. Reed would like to see greater preservaâ€" tion and restoration of these beauâ€" ties, wherever possible. Mr. Reed, himself a prominent architect in Chicago, pursued his hobby of old houses until he became an authority on early midâ€"western architecture. In this connection he served as director of the Historical American Building Survey of Hlliâ€" nois. THURSDAY, MARCH 17, 1988 Y.W.C.A.
