PAGE TWO Army Man Faces Prison Term After Escape Friday Nicholas Nedhoff, a 22â€"yearâ€"old private at Fort Sheridan, faces a long prison term after an abortive escape attempt, Nedhoff, under guard for desertion, was captured near Wheeling Friday afternoon a little more than two hours after he had grabbed a sentry‘s riot gun and fied the military reservation. The sentry, James Le Neve, darâ€" ingly attempted to stop the fugiâ€" tive. Nedhoff, working on dump truck, leaped on his guard‘s back and attempted to wrest a riot gun from him. The guard, who is five feet nine, and his prisoner six feet two, scufâ€" fied for a moment. The gun went off as Nedhoff succeeded in grabâ€" bing it. He then disappeared into a ravine and escaped from the resâ€" ervation by crawling under a fence. Two and a half hours later Poâ€" lice Chief John DeSmidt Highwood and Capt. Temple G. Holland, proâ€" vost marshal, came upon the fugiâ€" tive attempting to thumb a ride along Milwaukee avenue north of Nedhoff, who walked the entire distance of ten miles, was unarmed.
