The Pfanâ€" stichl Electrical laboratories were founded by him in 1907 to manuâ€" facture gas engine ignition coils, Xâ€" ray apparatus, and various metalâ€" lurgic products on the basis of his United States patents. The name of the company changed to Pfanâ€" stiehl company, Inc., in 1919 and today is known as the Fansteel Meâ€" tallurgical corporation. . (Many readers will recall the North Chiâ€" cago plants as the site of strikes headlined in newspapers sometime ago.) _A new factory, when the name was changed, was built to make ductile tungsten, metal prodâ€" ucts, and rare metals such as tantaâ€" lum and molybdenum. It was in the next year, 1918, that he began to devote his time to research direction in the Special Chemicals company (now the Pfanâ€" stiehl Chemical Company of Waukeâ€" gan), which he organized to make rare biological chemicals not before manufactured in this country.
