Highland Park, Illinois, December 7, 1939. X42â€"4u Mailings of both Christmas parâ€" cels and holiday greeting cards at the local post office are exceeding all previous records, according to Postmaster Cobb, He states it is especially gratifying to note the much larger percentage of Christâ€" mas greetings mailed first class this year. Besides enabling the mailer to write a personal message, these first class greetings may be sealed and go much faster than the third class, unsealed ones. Using 2¢ and Bc stamps on their holiday greetings instead of 14c stamps greatly enâ€" hances the dignity and effect of their Christmas message. Incidentally, it is the main factor in the big inâ€" crease in postal revenue at the Highâ€" land Park office this December over previous years. This will be helpful in obtaining an allotment for a new office here next year. Automobiles For Sale Christmas Special The Highland Park post office will continue to remain open eveninn! until the rush is over, as well as this Saturday afternoon. The two bridges on these roads, he added, were not of heavy enough construction to withstand the terriâ€" fic pounding they were now getting. He made the suggestion, in which the council concurred, that City Enâ€" gineer Cole examine the bridges with the thought in mind of making a five ton weight limit on trucks using these crossings. As prophesied in these columns last week, the council at Monday eveâ€" ning‘s session changed the city ordiâ€" nance pertaining to opening and closing hours of amusement places to allow public bowling may be inâ€" dulged in from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on week days and from 11 a.m. to 11 p. m. on Sundays. No objection to this action was raised from the floor of the council meeting so it may be assumed that the change was in acâ€" cord with the majority of the comâ€" munity‘s wishes as the proposed acâ€" tion of the council was publicized a week ago. Commissioner Swanson closed his report by requesting permission of ‘the council to install overhanging ‘lighb on the Ravine drive bridge. He stated that no expense would be incurred by the city from this inâ€" stallation. Permission was granted by the council as requested. At the close of the meeting, Maâ€" yor Ronan announced that due to the press of the holidays there would be no council meetings on the next‘ two Mondays. Your reporter plans to use these columns next week in a discussion of the incinerator probâ€" lem and what progress the commitâ€" tee in charge is making towards its ultimate solution. In the meantime he wishes to take this opportunity to wish the readers of THE HicHâ€" LAND PARK PrEsS a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosâ€" perous New Year. by (Continued from page 1) THB H1IGHLAN D for an Adtaker 5 58 A stork shower was given on Monâ€" day evening in honor of Mrs. Ettore Lenzi, by a group of her friends at the home of Mrs. Kate Bernardoni.
