In honor of this occasion, it is bringing to Chiâ€" cago Mary R. Beard, author of "America Through Women‘s Eyes," coâ€"author of "The Rise of Ameriâ€" can Civilization" and "America in Midpassage," who will present a one day institute to its members aund friends to be held at the Standâ€" ard Club on April 25th. Because of Mary Ritter Beax‘d’s‘ interest in interpreting the part which women have played in history and bécause she believes in the ability of mankind to learn from past errors, her subject, "The American Family in Midpassage," should be stimulating and challengâ€" ing to her Chicago audience. This will be the only occasion on which Miss Beard will appear during her stay in Chicago. The morning session opens at 10:30 a.m. with luncheon session at 12:45 p.m. Lillian Gisb, star of "Life With Father," will speak at the luncheon. The afternoon sesâ€" sion will convene at 2:15 p.m. The Association for Family Livâ€" ing had its beginning in Chicago over twenty years ago in groups of mothers organized for informal study. Later nationally known exâ€" perts who were brought in for pubâ€" lie conference stimulated so much interest that the Chicago Associaâ€" tion for Child Study and Parent Education was established in 1925 by Mrs. S. T. Lawton "to coâ€"ordinate the efforts of organized child study groups and promote the idea of parâ€" ent education." As such it became famous for its excellent conferences, its discriminating body of material available for parents and the soundâ€" ness of its approach. As the demand for leadership began to come in from other groups, professional staff members were employed and the staff has grown throughout the last six years, in answer to the increasâ€" ing demand, from two part time workers to a well balanced staff of eight trained persons under the diâ€" rection of Evelyn Millis Duvall, exâ€" ecutive director, and Dr. Irene M. IJossern. psychiatrist. COMMUNITY CALENDAR Week of Friday, April 19 to 25 11 7:30 Seccion Presbyterian Church.
