Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mansell of Clavey road, while visiting in West Virginia last week, witnessed a torâ€" nado in Charleston, where they were visiting the Mithchell‘s, former resâ€" idents of Highland Park. Trees were uprooted and blown over on parked cars, while many plate glass windows were broken. Huge branches of trees were blown across doorways of homes. Fortuâ€" nately the section in which the Mansell‘s were visiting waus not damaged. Mrs. Mansell said it was a most exciting experience. Lillyblad. Their home is situated among the pines overlooking a very large lake, where the former officer spends much of his time swimming and fishing. Shaver is particiâ€" pating in a six weeks program at the Middlebury College Language schools, designed to better internaâ€" tional relationships through lanâ€" guage study, Mrs. Shaver is a stuâ€" dent in the French school. All the students, at the schools, have pledged themselves to speak, read, and write only the language in which they are specializing. Faculty members in the segreâ€" gated schools of French, Spanish, German, and Italian, are natives of the respective countries. The schools stand for the thorough preparation of language teachers through effiâ€" cient methods of teaching, a masâ€" tery of the spoken and written lanâ€" guage, and an intimate knowledge of the life, institutions, literature, history and culture of the country studied. Mrs. Barbara Juenger Aged Resident Dies Mrs. Barbara Juenger, aged 85, died Tuesday morning at the home of her son, Henry L. Juenger, 845 S. Green Bay road. She had been a resident of Highland Park for the past thirtcen years. Mrs. Juenger is survived by four children, Henry of this city, George of Indianapolis, Margret of Highâ€" land Park, and Elsa Dix of Chicago. There are also two grandchildren, Henry Juenger and Richard Dix. _ Funeral services will be held Friâ€" day in Fulton, III., where interment will take place. s The terrific heat last Thursday, claimed one victim in this vicinity. Dante Bertocchini, aged 45, a laborâ€" er living at 125 North ave., Highâ€" wood, collapsed on the grass of the North Shore park, Eighwood and died almost immediately. Highwood Laborer Victim Of Heat A coroners jury, Friday, returnâ€" ed a verdict of heat exhaustion. Bertocchini is survived by a wife, Josephine, and two children. Funâ€" eral services were held Saturday morning at St. James church with burial in Ascension cemetery. Bicyclist Injured In Accident Friday Thomas E. Brown, 17, of 1009 N. St. Johns ave., was injured Friday evening in a carâ€"bicycle accident, during the heavy rain, wind and lightening storm. Mrs. Joshua Derry of Lake Forâ€" The young man was pedalling his bicycle north on Green Bay road beâ€" tween Michigan and Chicago aveâ€" nues, when he was struck by an auto driving south on Green Bay road by Hubert Johnson, 42, of 215 Liewelly ave., Highwood. Brown was taken to the Highland Park hospital by Johnson, where he was treated for cuts and bruises, and later returned home. Highwood Police Radio Destroyed By Fire Sunday A short circuit in a police radio caused fire damage estimated at about $100 to the office of the City Collector in the Highwood City Hall. The blaze was discovered by Alâ€" phonso Burgoni, janitor, when he was taking the flag down about 5:15 p.m. that afternoon. He notiâ€" fied Chief of Police, John de Smidt, who notified the Highwood fire deâ€" partment. The chief had the fire well under control when the departâ€" ment arrived. The walls and a desk were scorched while the radio and a numbering machine were destroyâ€" Highland Radio George Abernathy New Legion Head George Abernathy was elected post of the American Legion at its annual meeting held Thursday eveâ€" ning in Legion hall.
