A social worker who is studying the adjustment of refugee children to our way of living was a guest at the luncheon to observe the reaction of American children to foreign cus- toms and foods. The children ended the day by sce- ing the drama of "Sleeping Beauty" which was exquisitely presented at the Goodman theatre. The Japanese Consul was invited to speak on Japan but was unable to attend so Miss Jean Shintani took the group to view the annual Bower arrangement at the Japanese shop, Yamanaka's, on Michigan avenue. The priccless art objects and Japan- ese kimonas of the shop were also viewed by the group. This year the leaders felt that more than ever the children should learn to understand the people of other nations so they have continued their study of foreign countries. Sat- urday they were the guests of the Shintani Japanese Restaurant in Chicago for luncheon. The children were intensely interested in the Japanese room, the native costumes and the unusual food cooked under their eyes at the table. the Brownie Scouts of Troop 22 of the Lincoln school under the leadership of Mrs. Malcolm Sproul and Mrs. Frederick Toof have been studying International Friendship for the past two years. Last year the children made dolls of asbestos, wire and glue and dressed them in the authentic costumes of the countries they had studied.
