Organization of this new project is being perfected by J. Lioyd Baird, WPA State "Director of Recreation. The WPA recreational leaders will work under the auspices of local comâ€" mittees. Hugh Riddle, Principal Housing Priorities Examiner for the Division of. _ Defense Housing â€" Coordination, will be the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Highland Park Chamâ€" ber of Commerce, Tuesday night. City Designated As Defense Area By War Department Over 800 WPA recreation leaders and workers are being mobilized in lMinois for service under the new $5,000,000 National Defense Recreation Froject, recently certified by the War Department and sponsored by the Fedâ€" eral Security Agency, lllinois WPA Administrator Charles P. Casey anâ€" nounced today. ‘ These are the state‘s contribution to a corps of 5,000 trained workers, being assembled all over the country for special recreation service in military defense areas and adjacent communâ€" ities. The Illinois WPA personnel will be assigned at first to approximately 20 locations specified as defense areas by the War Department. They are: Alton, Belleville, Champaign, Decatur, E. Alton, E. Moline, E. St. Louis, Glenview, Great Lakes, Herrin, Highâ€" land ark, Highwood, Joliet, Moline, Rantoul, Rockford, Rock Island, Saâ€" vanna, Urbana, Waukegan and Wilmâ€" ington. As the need increases, other communities may be added to this list on recommendation of the Federal Security Administration and by cerâ€" tification from the War Department.
