There is an exhibit of handmade bookmarks on display at the entrance to the children‘s room at the Public Library, which have been made by the girl scouts. When the Gray Ladies are conâ€" sidered proficient as library workers, they will be graduated and will be available for service wherever assigned by the Red Cross. Miss Selma Lindem is the. only fullâ€"time professional librarian â€" emâ€" ployed in any Chicago hospital and because of her outstanding recor d there since 1929, was borrowed for six months two years ago to assist in setting up a Junior League project in hospitals of New York City. Mrs. Peck has done successful Volunteer work under Miss Lindem from time to time for several years. The Presbyterian Hospital Library is one of the major activities supported by the hospital Woman‘s Board. For their first lecture on Wednesâ€" day morning, the group went to Chilâ€" aren‘s Memorial Hospital, where they were addressed by Dr. Byrd Arnold Smith, M. A., clinical psychologist at that hospital, on the subpect of perâ€" sonality traits. Library Training Course For Gray Ladies at Presbyterian Hospital Throbgh the ~cooperation "of~ the Woman‘s Board of Presbyterian Hosâ€" pital, a library training course . for Red Cross Gray Lady volunteers is to <be given under the direction of Miss Selma Lindem, librarian at Presâ€" byterian Hospital, with Mrs. Philip F. W. Peck, coâ€"chairman of the Board‘s library committee, in charge of the project. The course, which beâ€" gan on Wednesday, Jan. 21, is the first designed to prepare volunteers for library work in hospitals and at Army and Navy posts. The 19 women comprising the class were selected by Miss Lindem and Mrs. Peck from a larger group who reported at Red Cross headquarters for interviews. Last Sunday, January 18, Mrs. Franâ€" were hostesses for afternoon tea at the U. S. O. Club. Music throughout the program was furnished by "Bud" Knight, at the piano, and his program of popular music provided for genâ€" eral dancing and informal singing.
