Thursday, Dec. 11, 1947 Opens In Los Angeles Whoaâ€"I‘ll have to make a new start. . If the Chamber of Comâ€" might be given my walking papers. Just now the weather here is too nice for me to want to go back and shovel snow, so I will begin This CITY ofâ€"Los Angeles is spread over a huge territory. It embraces several cities like Hollyâ€" wood, Westwood and Sherman @aks, for instance, and many others. To go downtown to do shopping is next to impossible, beâ€" caug: there‘ is no place to park fifiu. Some of the filling staâ€" tions downtown will now wash your car while you go shopping. Of course you have to pay for the job. Twice we had to go down town. Once we could not get into a filling station nearer than seven blocks from our destination. We had to take a taxi to the store and later another taxi back to the fill~ But during this past: year sevâ€". u-lcfthdmlownmhn‘ built large establishments on the outskirts of the city, with plenty of parking space. Santa Claus put in his appearâ€" Vg.lu'ge'th'nyuronl!flhwe'm.m to these parts. The business men make much ado about Christmas. ‘The weather is far from Christâ€" masy. And still more men are being trained all the time, to say nothing about ithophinclotlnl-u-ndth!'-l L. fog. The parade always has plenty of bands, each led by a pretty girl who walks ahead of the band mas~ ter. These majorettes wear beauâ€" tiful uniforms, all a glitter with carrics a baton. The way she manipulates it is really something to behold. Each girl handles hers a different way. She may throw it under her knee and catch it after a step or two, or she may throw it up and walk a few steps been hanging there for a week waiting for her. Of course there is a steady applause all. along the line of march. Seems to me‘these girls would have their heads turnâ€" ed. Even the police salute them. The movie actors are always in the Parade.â€"Someâ€"ride in flower. bedecked autos and bow to right and left as the spectators applaud.
