The said metal caps shall be approxiâ€" mately five (5) inches long, shall be indented to provide.limiting stop for the dowel bar and shall provide unobstructed expansion space of not less than one (1) inch to permit movement of the dowel bar. Said caps shall fit the dowel bar tightly, and the closed end shall be water tight. The said dowel bars shall be truly perpendicular to the expansion joints and parallel to the surfuce of the pavement. Horizontal spacing bars to keep the dowel bars in the proper alignment shall be provided and securely wired to each dowel bar. Said spacing bars shall be smooth, round reinforcement bars oneâ€"half (%) inch in diameter. The concrete for the pavement shall be composed of Portland cement, torâ€" pedo sand, gravel and water mixed in such proportions so as to produce a workâ€" wbie plastic mass of concrete having a compression strength of not less than w.qmmm-nflmwdmtmdwl-mflm a inch at the age of fourteen (14) days when tested by standard methods. All of said pavement shall be reinforced with rot less than serentyâ€"eight (78) pounds of electric welded steel wire fabric to each one hundred (100) square feet of pavement surface. Dowel bars shail be held parellel to the surface of the proposed pavement by metal chairs or supports. The edges of theâ€"pavement adjacent to said expansion joints shall limestone screenings, well compacted, if in the pavingâ€"ares or within two (2) feet back of the curb; otherwise this space shall be backfilled with earth. .. The pavement slab shallâ€"be placed oneâ€"half (%) width at a time, the center line of the improvement being the division line between slabs. There shall be constructed along this center line a "V" shaped construction joint, extending from end to end of the proposed improvement, excepting that said foint shall mot be continuous through the expansion joints but shail begin and terminate at each expansion joint. Excavation shall include all borrow, subgrading, the removal of all earth, all types of existing pavement (including base course and surface course), all existing curbs, gutters, combination curbs and gutters, sideâ€" walks and driveways, structures, rock; all clearing of logs, stumps, brush, vegiâ€" tation, rubbish anqoflnrpdllhnhlnorobncmue matter; and the satisfact= materiais which are unsuitable for fills, and all existing pavements, curbs, gutâ€" ters, combination curbs and gutters, sidewalks and ariveways which are reâ€" moved, and all logs, stumps, brush, vegitation, rubbish and cther perishable or objectionable matter shall be removea and aisposed of outside the rimi«s of the proposed improvement. Excavation shall not include the excavation for manholes, catch basins, manboleâ€"catch basins, inlets, inlet manholes, storm sewers, connections, house service connections, macadam pavemment replacement, sidewalk repiacement, driveway replacement, valve vaults, manholes, catch basin adjustments, new valve vaults, meter pit adjustment, water service exâ€" tensions, tree removals or planting, hydrant removals, or excavation for the straight curb; such excavation shall be incidental to the improvement and shali be included in the unit cost of the specific unit of work to be done. Where there ‘is insufficient or unsuitable excavated material on the im« provement to make necessary fills, the necessary material shall be obtained from other sources. All stumps and roots shall be removed tweive (12) inches below subgrade of the proposed improvement. All existing pavement, curb, gutter, compined curb and gutter and structures shall be removed to at least three (3) inches below the subgrade of the proposed improvement. All removal below subgrade No allowance is made for fill or borrow on this improvement. That portion of the street referred to as the "roadbed",‘ on which the proâ€" posed concrete pavement and combined curb and gutter is to be constructed, shall be so graded that after being rolled with a power driven roller weighing mot less than three (3) nor more than five (§) tons until thoroughgiy comâ€" pacted, the subgrade shall present a firm, even surface of uniform density. There shall be approximately 19300 square yards of parkways to be plowed, harrowed, graded, rmoothed, handraked,â€" rolled and seeded with first quality mmixture of grass seed. The finished surface of said parkways shall present an even curved surface conver upward from~the top of the proposed curb to the nearest edge of the ezisting sidewalk, undisturbed parkway, or the estabiisned grade of the fill where such fill is necessary. The grass seed herein provided to be used shail be a first quality mixture of twenty (20) pounds of Red Top to forty (40) pounds of Kentucky Biue Grass and forty (40) pounds of Aito Fescue. Said seed shall be distributed at the rate of one (1) pound to each two hundred (200) square feet of parkway. After seeding the surface shall be raked with a haridâ€"rake so that the seed shall be evenly covered with a layer of fine earth to a depth of oneâ€"quarter (%) inch. The surface shall then be roiled with a hand roller weighing not less than one hundred (100) pounds nor more than two hundred (200) pounds. The entire seeded area shall then be covered with slough hay to a depth of mpproximately oneâ€"quarter (%) inch.
