Beachâ€" wood is the lowest street in this canyon, and is a very pretty street with very pretty homes and beautiful gardens. â€" Nary a one, except the one last week with whom I had ridden beâ€" fore, have the faintest idea of where to go. After we get to the house, every driver says, "I have never been up here before." They also ask the same questions, "How much further does .this street go?" and, "‘Can I reach Beachwood by going to the end of ‘the street?" I alâ€" wayeâ€"seliâ€"them to #oâ€"Back The way ~ASSSâ€"Sen tnem to 20 Dack the way we came, â€"it is the shpl:tegt way One driver went south and over the Boulevard at very high speï¬: and kept going in the wrong rection as fast as his old rattle trap could go before I could make him understand that he was going in the wrong direction. That made it necessary for him to drive three blocks before he could turn in the right direction. After we reached the house he said, "This is a hellâ€" ofâ€"a place to live." That made me feel cross and I wouldn‘t pay for the going around those three exâ€" tra blocks. It also taught me a lesson, and now I ask the driver if he knows where I want to go. Smail children are cared for during Boulevard, but about one third of the time Iâ€" have several little jobs to do and I want to take my time, so I say, "When I get through T‘ll go back in a taxi." Until one day last week I never had the same taxi the second time. The driver was an elderly man and when I said "2955" he finished my address. Every driver hates to acknowledge that he never heard of Hollyridge Drive. that they know everywhere in Los Angeles and Hollywood is part of Los Angeles. I have lived here in Hollywood almost five years and there is seldom a week that I don‘t have to go at least twice down to Hollyâ€" wood Boulevard and Vine Street (which is like State and Madison in Chicago). On nearly all streets crossing Hollywood Boulevard, not far from the corner and next to the sidewalk, is space markedâ€"off for taxis to park. This makes it easy to find them. One driver said, "I like flowers, but what anyone wants with roses on the roof, I can‘t understand, that looks rather dumb to me." Of all the taxi drivers I have come â€"in contact with, I have never met one who tried to beâ€" come too familiar.
