H. Vale, constituting a quorum. The minutes of the last preceedlnff Meeting were read and approved. E. V. The recommendation that the County pay the entire cost of the bridge occasioned considerable discussion but it appearing that the board had at its* last meeting voted to defray the entire coat of a bridge in Burton Township exclusive of tno approaches, on motion of Supr. Hoffman, duly seconded and carried, the report was adopted. A petition of Henry Vogel, commissioner of highways for the Town of Richmond, was presented and read, to-wit: To the Honorable Board of Supervisors of McHenry County. Illinois. Gentlemen:--Your petitioner. Henry Vogel. highway commissioner of the Town of Richmond, respectfully represents that for the past two years the tax levy for road and bridge purposes in and for said township has been the full amount permitted by law; that said amount has not been and is not now sufficient to keep the roads in said township in the proper repair; that the expense to be borne by the township in the construction of the Cropley Bridge which your honorable body has ordered constructed under county aid will take funds from said road and bridge fund which is needed for ***. committee on/ffc^V^bor. **eee lad Supplies) made Che following report which was on motion adopted, to-*it: State of mtnols, County of McHenry. as. Harrison that the prayer of said petition be granted and that as in the case of the Seneca bridge the County pay the entire cost of construction exclusive of the approaches. said motion was seconded by Supr. Barber and carried. The petition of E. C Hammond, commissioner of highways for the township of Alden was presented and read, the same being in words and figures as follows, to-wit: To the Board of Supervisors of the County of McHenry in the State of Illinois: Gentlemen;--The undersigned. Commissioner of Highways of the Town of Alden in said County, would respectfully represent that the bridge across the stream known as "Moakler's Creek'" crossing the highway leading from Alden to Harvard and located in section thirty of said town, is unsafe and needs to be replaced by a new bridge "for .which work the said Town of Alden is responsible; that the total cost of said bridge and approaches will be one thousand nine hundred dollars; that the population of said town is less than 15,000; that the cost of said bridge and approaches will be more than twelve cents on the one hundred dollars on the latest assessment roll; and that the levy of the road and bridge tax for two (2) years past in said town was in each year for the full amount allowed by law to be raised therein for all road and bridge injr- Btoses except for damages incurred in aying out. altering, widening, or vacating roads, or for ditches to drain roads, the whole of which levy is needled for the ordinary repair of the roads and bridgesJta said town. Harrison that the chair appoint a committee of three to represent the county, that the county pay the entire cost of the bridge exclusive of approaches and that said committee be empowered to let contract if in their opinion such new bridge Is necessary, said motion being duly seconded and carried, the chair appointed as such committee Supervisors Turner. Ward and Covell It was moved by Supr. Turner and seconded by Supr. Hughes that the Board adjourn to 1:30 o'clock p. m. Xiao v. m. Board met pursuant to adjournment Present same members. The clerk presented the certificates of the various highway commissioners of the county, of the amounts necessary to be raised by taxation for the proper construction, maintenance and repair of roads and bridges in their various townships, and upon motion of Supr Harrison said certificates of levy were approved. The clerk presented lists of claims against the county and on motion of Supr Turner, seconded by Supr. Whipple, same were referred to the proper committees for report and the board adjourned for one hour for committee work. Following the period set aside for committee work, the Committee on claims (County Poor) made the following report which was upon motion adopted, to-wit: State of Illinois, County of McHenry, ss. HUGHKflL Tfeii committee on relief Of tke WW made the following report which was on moticn adopted, to-wlt: 8tate of Illinois, McHenry County, ifc Mr. Chairman and Gentleman of TO Board of Supervisors: Tour Committee on the Relief of the Blind would beg leave to submit the following report on the matters before rthom: That the appropriation heretofore made for the relief af blind persons was exhausted on the first day of July, A. D. 1010. We would therefore recommend that the sum of one hundred fifty dollars (2160.00), payable quarterly, commencing July 1st, A. D 1919, and payable October 1st, A. D. 1919, January 1st, A. D. 1920, April 1st, A. D. 1020 and July 1st. A. D. 1920. be appropriated for each of the following named persons, under the Statute, to-wit: Geo. Mr. Chairman and Gentleman of the Board of Supervisors: Tour Committee on Fees and Salaries would beg leave to submit the following report on the matters before them: Mr. Chairman and Gentlemen of the Board of Supervisors: We would recommend that a 'competent. able-bodied man should be employed by the committee on public buildings as janitor of the Court House and Jail, said person to devote his entire time to the performance of the duties of said position; that it shall be the duty of the person so employed to build and care for the fires in jail ind court house and see that the offices, corridors and rooms in said buildings are properly swept, cleaned and repaired; also that the grounds, walks and other property about said buildings are properly Cared for and that the sheriff shall be charged under the direction of the Committee on public buildings with the duty of instructing said janitor in the discharge of his duties, and we would recommend that there be allowed the said Janitor the sum of eighty-two and one-half dollars ($82 60) for each month as salary for said services. The Special Committee on the Hebron bridge, known as. the Armsby bride made the following report which was. on motion adopted, to-wit: Mr. Chairman and Gentlemen of the Board of Supervisors, McHenry County, Illinois: Your Committee to whom was referred the matter of constructing a new bridge at the site known as the Armsby Bridge located on the road between section 3 and 4 in the Town of Hebron would beg leave to make the following report on the matters before them: That said bridge was completed according to the contract and duly accepted by this committee who met with the Highway Commissioner of the Town of Hebron and the County Superintendent of Highways of said McHenry County, at said bridge on the thirtieth day of August, A. D 1819, pursuant to the call of the Chairman or this Committee. That the contract price for said bridge was the sum of fourteen hundred fiftyfive dollars ($1455) and the extra expenses for supervising the same and for filling the approaches and graveling the floor amounts to the sum of one hundred seventy-four dollars ($174.00) as follows: For filling approaches and graveling floor one hundred twenty-nine dollars ($129), for inspecting the work during construction forty dollars ($40) and for advertising five dollars ($5|. The cost of filling the approaches and advertising and for graveling the floor having been advanced by the Town of Hebron, we would therefore recommend that the County Clerk draw an order in favor of Button Brothers for the sum of seven hundred twenty-seven dollars and fifty cents ($727.50); one In favor of D. M. Weter for inspecting for the sum of twenty dollars ($20.00); one in fevor of H M. Turner, Treasurer of the Town of Hebron Road and Bridge Funds for the sum of sixty-seven dollars ($67.00), which said orders are onehalf the entire cost of said bride. The annual report of the Treasurer was presented add read and on motion referred to the Committee to settle with the treasurer for report. The clerk presented lists of claims against the county which were on motion of Supr Harrison, duly seconded and carried, referred to the proper committees for report. Mrs. W. H. Shipton appeared before the board and urged than ail organisation be perfected In the oounty for the purpose of handling the expenditure of the money belonging to said county from tho sale of Christmas seals, stated that there was now In the hands of the State Committee at Springfield upwards of the sum of 1600.00 that with an active campaign for the sale of said stamps, that amount could be easily increased to $2000.00 and urged that each member of this board ^endorse the sale in his township, no official action was taken by the Botrtfa It was moved by PupqgHarrlson and seconded by Supr. Morris appeared before the board, stated that the McHenry County Poultry association was desirous of putting on a poultry show sometime during the coming winter, mentioned the appropriations heretofore made by this board to assist In defraying the expenses of such shows, stated that this was the only association now in the county and asked that an appropriation of $100.00 be made in their behalf It was moved by Supr. Harrison and seconded by Supr. Walters that there be appropriated to said association the sum of $100.00 and that the'clerk of this board draw a voucher on the Treasurer for said amount payable to the Treasurer of the McHenry County Poultry association.
