NEARLY $6,000,909 COLLECTED On Auto liccuef During th* Year Just Ending Neary six million dollars has been collected in automobile license fees this year by Secretary of State Louis L. Emmerson. The total to date Is $6,886,771.82. In the collection of these fees Illinois has made a record for economy. The cost has been only 6.3 per cent of the amount collected. The average cost in other states is ten per cent, according to reports made at the recent national meeting of secretaries of state. The amount collected in automobile fees this year is five times as much was collected in 1916, the year previous to the beginning of the present administration. The increase will aid materially in paying for the construction of the hard roads system of the state. The growth of automobile fees sine* 1911, the first year fees were collected, has been phenominal. The total for that year was $105,433, collected from 38,269 automobile owners. H. Q. of the frying pan brigade issued some hot stuff in the form of domestic venison, hasenfeffer and rabbit, together with all the trimmings that go with such a spread. As a special feajture, Mr. Kane, who saw overseas service with a Canadian division, was present and treated the boys to some very much enjoyed is elections on a bag pipe. Not forgetting one of their members who has been confined to his home for several weeks past, seme of the boys accompanied the Canadian lad to the home of Leo Stilling on F.ox river, where a serenade followed. "Christmas Is Coming" ^ The very inclement weather no doubt kept many from attending the Christmas exercises as held, at the M. E. church last evening. A playlet, "Christmas Is Coiling," participated in by the little folks of the Sunday school classes, was very well rendered and much enjoyed by the congrega tion at hand. Mrs. J. J. Vasey, Misses Blanche Pryor and Mabel Peterson supervised the little folks; Miss Dor cas FOBS of Ringwood also appeared on the program in two very appropri ate solos, which were exceptionally well rendered. Gifts were distributed from the tree to each child pmwt at the close of the program. Farewell For Frank Schnabel Members of the local Masonic lodge tendered one of their members, Frank ScAnabel, a farewell party at their hall last Saturday evening, on which occa sion a most delightful few hours were passed together. Mr. Schnabel will leave soon for a visit with his brother in the east, having sold his business here. He was presented with a beau tiful Masonic emblem, which in the fu ture will serve him as a remembrance of his many McHenry friends and especially last Saturday night's oomk •ion.
