To Make Topographic &qrvey Crystal Lake Herald; Oscar Walsh, who is employed by the state and government for that purpose, heading a field party of five men, arrived in Woodstock Wednesday to start the work of making a topographic survey of McHenry county, which includes surveying the lands, working At the various elevations and making contour maps of the county. The government and state have been carrying on this wort for many years and about threefourth of Illinois has been covered, it is said. The party of field workers under Mr. Walsh has been assigned fee McHenry snd. Boone counties. They will make their headquarters in Woodstock for the present and today started in on the work north of Hebron. The work will consume the greater part of a year, before contour maps will be available. After this work*is finished other field men are sent out to work out maps covering mineral resources and the like. ^ | Indiana Challenges Illinois The savings officials and postmasters of Indiana have issued a challenge to the savings officials and postmasters of Illinois for a government savings securities salesmanship contest. The proposed basis of the contest is as follows: 1. Contest shall start August 1 and end November 30. 2. The state having the largest per capita sales during this period will be declared the winner. An honor roll of Illinois postmasters M011 be printed at< the end of each month and pasted in all Illinois postoffices and it is hoped that the names of both of oar postmasters will appear there.
