The visitors came to McHenry for the express purpose of showing up the home club, but sad to relate, the invaders were forced to return home with everything except the fulfillment of their expectations. A number of the Wauconda fans saw Libertyville hand the McHenry outfit a one-sided lacing at the Libertyville fair grounds on July 4. What proved easy picking for Libertyville should also be "duck soup" for Wauconda, so thought the backers of the Lake county team. Evidently, however, there must have been some one that did give McHenry credit of possessing a fairly good ball club as the Wauconda team came to our town very well "loaded." So confident were the Wauconda fans that their team would win that a number came over with their entire week's earnings, which they were willing to post on their favorites. Yes, one lad put up his entire week's earnings, sixteen honest-to-goodness "smackers." ' To the better's disappointment the local gang behaved themselves tfs a good amateur club should and as a natural consequence they put up a real game instead* of a farce-like matinee as staged at Libertyville. We still insist that McHenry has a good ball club and, when going at its best speed, can make things interest, ing for any club in these parts. Nelson, who occupied the hill for the locals, pitched one of his very best games, twice pulling himself together and pitching himself out of holes which looked deep and treacherous. Kirwan, who did the artillery work for the visitors, got off to a very bad start, but after the third round had the local outfit eating out of his hand. The game by innings: First inning: Pinkey and Seneca both fanned and Murphy fouled to Mead. No hits, no runs. McHenry: Knox singled to center and went all the way to third when Bolger dumped one in front of the plate. To make matters still worse Erickson just couldn't pick up the ball and after he did shot the horsehide over the first baseman's head, Bolger pulling up to second on the error. G. Meyers scored Knox ahd sent Bolger to third when he grounded to Murphy at short and was thrown out at first. M. Meyers skied to Murphy and Nelson was thrown out by fcS- tr~ 1 -7* 5. t* ' Electric Output in Kilowatt Hours Public Service Company et Nerthera UlliMte ||CA^ij44 191S 16 Electric Generating Pluto 7 Ga« Manuf&ctnrinf Plants 700 Miles Electric Traniyfarien Um 900 MOm Oas Mains 5,800 Square Miles ot Territory Served 1,157,000 Population I*,,/.- •V X •' i ,_T,- ^ *t * kr # ,, f ^" r' r hi,' * •-,'£ "?• v;-• ; Mk- Vttfilifll 1917 214,702^19 1919 326,687,051 . 192/ CO ;r 359,410,664 Demands Electric Power Grow Faster § Than Population THE CHART opposite shows how the output of the electric plants of the Public Smrvice Company of Northern lUinoi* hai grown in the past 10 yean. Meyers, Joseph hittWtg to Meyers, who ran over, 4<lK|WBd second and then got the bail to first in plenty of time to complete the douBle. Carr strode out No hits, no runs. McHenry: Buss singled to center and took second on Winkel's single to right. Mead rolled a slow one down to Kirwan, which the latter had difficulty in picking up. After he did get a hold on the sphere he heaved the pill a mile over first, the error allowing Bus& to score, while Winkel halted at third. Mead went all the way to second on the error. Rossman then proceeded to pull a poor sort of baseball when he wandered around the home plate fan a sort of; an aimless manner after he had dumped one in front of the plate. He was easy for Erickson. It was Rossman's place to draw the throw to first and thus give Wjnkel a chance to score from third. However, this did not matter much, as. Kirwin helped us to another run by messing up Knox's roller, the error pcoring Winkel, while Mead went on to third. Knox stole second. Bolger lifted to Kirwin. G. Meyers scored the two men on the foot paths with a single to left and then stole second. M. Meyers out, Kirwin to Domek. Two hits, four runs. Third inning: Domek fouled to Mead. G. .Meyers struck out and Kirwin lifted to Bolger. No hits, no runs. McHenry: Nelson shot a three-ply smash into left. Buss fanned.. Winkel ras thrown out by Josephs. Nelson scored on Mead's double to right. Carr, who recovered the ball, tried to nail Mead at second, but his throw was so wide that it went past third and a mile from any fielder, Mead scoring on the error. Rossman out, Kirwin to Domek, Two, hits, two runs. Fourth inning: Pinkey out via the Meyers boys. Seneca and Murphy both fanned. No hits, no runs, McHenry: Knox was safe on Pinkey's wide throw to first. Bolger rolled to Pinkey, Knox going all the way to third on the sacrifice. Pretty nifty baseball. Knox tried to make home on G. Meyers' grounder to Murphy, but was trapped at the plate. G. Meyers was forced at second when M. Meyers hitv te Josephs. No hits, no runs. Fifth inning: Erickson shot a single past second and took second on a passed ball. Josephs struck out. Carr wit, Winkel to M. Meyers. Erickson took third on the put-out. Winkel ancl M. Meyers also killed Domek. One hit, no runs. McHenry: Pinkey and Domek got Nelson. Kirwin whipped out Buss and Winkel struck out. No hits, no runs. Sixth inning: €. Meyers was thrown out by Rossman. Kirwin fanned. Pinkey drew a walk and stole second while Seneca was striking out. No hits, no runs. McHenry: Mead struck out. Rossman was thrown out by Pinkey, while Murphy and Domek took cere Of Knox. No hits, no runs. Seventh inning: Murphy out, Meyers to Meyers. Erickson was hit by a pitched ball and took first. Josephs' grounder got away from Winkel, the error sending Erickson around to third. Josephs stole second. Winkel juggled Carr's grounder just long enough to allow Erickson »to score, but our little short stop recovered the ball in time te make the put-out at first. Josephs took third on the play and then scored on Domek's single to center. Bolger made a pretty running catch of C. Meyers' hard rap to short center. One hit, two runs. McHenry: Bolger walked and was caught stealing. G. Meyers folded to Erickson and M. Meyers was thrown out by Kirwin. No hits, no runs. Eighth inning: Kirwin and Pinkey both fanned. Seneca laced a single past third and took third" on Murphy's single past second. Murphy stole second. Erickson struck out. Fine work Nelson, old boy. Two hits, no runs. McHenry: Nelson singled over third. Buss struck out. Winkel sent Nelson to second on a single over short. Mead and Rossman both fanned. Two hits, no runs. Ninth inning: Josephs was thrown out by Nelson. Carr fanned. Domek doubled to center. C. Meyers was hit by a pitched ball and took first. The two base runners then pulled a double steal. Kirwin was thrown out by G. Meyers. One hit, no runs. The tabulated, score: Wauconda --,A HR. H Pinkey, 3rd b.
