The matinee proved a real pitcher's battle 'between Larson and our own Opeka. Larson, it seems, was especially imported for the occasion from Kenosha, Wis., and, while the management saw fit to remove him from the hill in the last half of the eleventh, it surely was not d fault of his that the Badger state lads went down to defeat. In fact, if looked like very poor judgment to remove him at the most critical stage of the performance and take a chance on a "cold" pitcher. However, it was Lake Geneva's mistake and not ours,' so why worry. ^ Lawson got off to a bad start, but from the third to the fatal eleventh he was almost- invincible. While the Lake Geneva twirler was going along at this fine rate of speed our own hurler, Opeka, Was doing his "stuff" in a manner that was most gratifying. Opeka wt^s never in real trouble but twice during the entire eleven innings. The first came in the fourth stanza, when the enemy succeeded in chalking up two markers, while he displayed just a trifle weakness in the tenth, but pitched himself out of a big hole after' he had been nicked for two singles and hit one batsman, thus filling the bases. He struck out two men in this round. Freund played a great game at first for McHenry as did also Kuppe at third and Bolger in center field. Freund's pick-up of Fay's fast shot in the sixth inning was the feature play of the day and probably saved the day for McHenrj^ The game by innings: FIRST INNING: Martin was thrown out by Kuppe. Fohlman rolled to Freund and Scharf struck out. No hits, no runs. McHenry: Knox lifted to Martin in left field. $olger shot a double into right and rode home on Fay's single thru short. Fay advanced to third on Kuppe* out, Fleek to Scharf. FreuntJ skied to Martin. Two hits, one run. SECOND INNING: Darriger rolled to Freund. Shulken fanned and Fleek was whipped out by Kuppe. No hits, no runs., McHenry: Winkel lifted to Mc- Larn. at short. Buss was safe on Darriger's bad peg to first, the runner going to second on the miscue and then scored on Thayer's double to left. Opeka lined to Van DuVeen in right. Thayer started for third on the hit and could not get back to the keystone sack in time to avoid double execution. One hit, one run. THIRD INNING: Van DuVeen and McLarn both fanned, after which Larson Bingled over first. Martin rolled to Fay, but both runners were safe when Winkel dropped Fay's peg for the forced put. Winkel then redeemed himself by throwing out Fohlman. One hit, no runs. McHenry: Knox was whipped out by Larson. Fleek and Scharf got Bolger and Fay skied to Fohlman in center. No hits, no runs. FOURTH INNING: Scharf singled to center. Darriger fanned. Shulken singled thru second, Scharf stopping at second. Both runners advanced a peg on a passed ball by Thayer. Fleek shot a high fly just a few feet back of second base. Bolger raced in at top speed and got to the ball, but was unable to hang onto same. Bolger almost broke a finger in his attempt to cut off the hit, which scored Scharf from third, while Shulken went to third. Fleek started to steal on the first ball pitched. Thayer tried the short throw, but Fay mussed it up, with the result that Shulken scored from third, while Fleek took the far corner. Thayer dropped Van DuVeen's third strike, necessitating a throw .to first. Freund shot the ball back to Thayer in a bullet-like manner and thus succeeded in cutting ofl^ Fleek, who came within a breath of registering. Three hits, two runs. • McHenry: Kuppe was thrown out by McLarn. Freund struck out and Winkel lifted to Martin in left. No hits, no runs. FIFTH INNING: 'McLani was safe on Fay's error and went to second on Larson's sacrifice, Opeka to Freund. Martin lifted to Kuppe and Fohlman was thrown out by Opeka. No hits, no runs. McHentry: Buds fanned. Thayer out, Larson to Scharf. Opeka fanned. No hits, no runs. SIXTH INNING: Scharf and Darriger ooth struck out. Shulken was given life on Knox's error and Fleek was thrown out by Fay, Freund making a beautiful pick-up bad throw^ ' No hits, no McHENRY'S 4. ,. & & •ONE OF AMUSEMENT, Thursday, juneci Anita Stewa||^ A Question li; of Hofior AND T&fc'COMEDY •m rot urr , "• r S t FRI. & SAT.. Thayer forced Freund at third when he rolled to Shulken, Buss going to second on the play. Opeka shot a vicious drive into the deep center, which Fohlman spiered with one hand after a long run. It was a beaut of a catch. One hit, no runs. ELEVENTH INNING: Shulken was safe on Knox's error. Fleek lined to Buss in right. Shulken was almost to third base when the catch was made and had no chance of avoiding a double killing. Van DuVeen fanned. No hits, no runs. McHenry: Knox was safe on Mclan'i error, the flaat tittle Wt flakier never 'stopping until he got to second. On a hit and run signal Knox was hall way to third when Bolger tapped to Larson. Larson played for Knctt; but "Bobby" beat the throw by aaa eyelash. Bolger then stole second. At this stage of the proceedings Larson left the mound and exchanged places with Shulken. Fay put over the squeeze play in perfect style by rolling a slow grounder just out pf reach of either the pitcher or first baseman. Scharf, who recovered the ball, shot the pill to the plate, bat his aim was bad and the game was over. One hit, one run. . The tabulate*} score: Lake Geneva4 R. J|.
