Hazel Dillon returned with them for a few days' visit. The Volo Ladies' Aid has undertaken the work of writing items of news for the McHenry Plaindealer. They will take turns writing the news and anyone knowing items of interest will please tell any member of the Aid. This help will be greatly appreciated by them. Mrs. H. Grover died at her home south of Volo Sunday, Aug. 3. She was about seventy-six years of age and leaves to mourn her loss her husband and three children, Wilfred and Gerald Grover and Mrs. Hughes. She was buried at Belvidere Wednesday. Rev. James officiated at the funeral. The following girls, who are all members of the girls' sewing club, have entered garments at the Aurora fair: Kathryn and Angeline Henkel, Alice Russell, Vera Vasey, Rachel Smith, Helen Vasey, Beatrice Wilson, Florence Benwell, Esther Lusk. All of the garments made by members of the club will be entered at the Lake county fair, where some very fine premiums are offered. at the Darrell-Matthews home. Mrs. Fannie Carr will remain for a few weeks' visit with relatives. Schaffer and son, Stanley, of McHenry called at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Geary last Thursday. Mrs. Schaffer and son remained with her parents until Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Harris and family of Wauconda and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Smith of Algonquin were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Page Smith. All drove to Tower lake near Wauconda and spent the afternoon. Roy Winkler of Chicago, who spent the week end with his parents, accompanied by Walter Winkler, attended a picnic at F'orest Park near Waukegan given for the employes of the Special Machine company, by which he is employed. Simon and children and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Sahr and children motored out from Chicago Sunday and spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mathieu and Theo. Meyers. At Mud lake, as they used to call it, which runs into Pistakee bay, the road there is about four feet under water in some places. The road has not been used for some time on account of the high water. Working people from Spring Grove and Johnsburg have been taking the road past the Stock farm for some time, which is a farther way to Pistakee Heights. Several of our lady Foresters attended a meeting which was held at McHenry on Monday evening, when the initiating of members from St. Clara and St. Patricia courts of McHenry and St. Agatha court of Johnsburg took place. The four girls that were initiated from here were Misses Dorothy Bauers, Agnes Hettermann, Martha Miller and Alice Freund. Miss Farley of Chicago conducted the initiation in a veiry interesting and instructive manner. After the business meeting other amusements were enjoyed and ice cream and cake were served, all of which made it a very pleasant evening. $1.00 for your old fountain pen at Nye's. the Ladies' Auxiliary last Thursday afternoon. The members of the Auxiliary sang a song welcoming the honoree, after which contests and games were enjoyed. Mrs. Harry Matthews was the lucky winner of one of the contests. A beautiful bronz book end was given to Mrs. Farnsworth. Mrs. W. V. Johns presented it with a few appropriate words, Mrs. Farnswoith responding in her usual charming way.
