Thompson attended the funeral of Mrs. Rhoda Sutherland at Waukegan Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Sutherland, a former Volo girl and a sister of Mrs. Thompson, died at the Victory Memorial hosital Thursday night after a short illness caused by uremic poisoning. Mrs. L. V. Lusk, accompanied by Mrs. D. V. Waite, Esther Lusk, Helen Vasey, Florence Bauman and Blanche Converse of the "Jolly Bunch club," went to Libertyville Friday evening to attend the achievement program given by Mrs. Doerschuk's girls' club, after which they saw the picture, "When a Man's a Man" at the Auditorium theatre. The Volo Ladies' Aid society met at the home of Mrs. L. V. Lusk Thursday, Oct. 2. About twenty ladies were present and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent in piecing quilts. A committee, consisting of Mrs. L. V. Lusk, Mrs. W. Dillon and Mrs. H. Converse, was appointed to make plans for the annual bazaar which is to be held at the church on Nov. 14. Council Room, Oct. 6, 1924. The city aldermen met in regular session with P. J. Doherty acting as mayor protem. Aldermen present: Doherty, Frisby, Goodell, Justen, Overton and Perkins. Motion by Goodell, seconded by Josten, that the city show its sympathy for our mayor, Dr. Wells, in his bereavement by sending suitable flowers and that the clerk be authorized to write a note of sympathy. Motion carried. Motion by Frisby, seconded by Overton, that the McHenry business men be requested to close their places of business on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 10:00 a. m. till 11:00 a. m., during the funeral services of Mrs. Wells. Mrs. Emil Simon Mrs. Emil Simon, who passed away in Chicago on Sept. 26, and was buried in St. John's cemetery the following Sunday, was the daughter of Theodore Meyers of this place. She was born in Johnsburg on Oct. 28, 1885, where she attended the parochial school and grew to womanhood. The deceased was united in marriage to Emil Simon in Chicago on May 28, 1911. Four children blessed this union, two of whom died in. infancy, Mrs. Geo. Vogel, Mrs. Wm.
