EM SE ACH ESS (Continued from page four) TAX RATE INCREASE The peculiar thing is that has eight legs and eight eyes, four on each side of its body. But with all of its eyes is very near sighted and can sec but a short distanM. Its food consists of anything that gets caught in its web, such as fly a, grasshoppers, bees, etc. The spider lhas an organ by which it spins a very fine, but strong silk with which to make its web. The web is of all sizes and shapes according to the kind of spider. The web is some tifties very pretty and delicate. The spider so gets its name by the way it moves from place to place. It crawls upon a tree or weed where it spins a web of a single thread. He crawls on this thread and then breaks itself from the tree or weed and the wind blows it away owing to its lightness. If he wishes to land he drops himself by another thread. Otherwise he will probably go a long ways before the thread comes to earth. On early summer mornings you may see these threads all over a meadow or field. When the female spider wishes to lay her eggs she kills a male spider takes the sperm from its body and fer tilizes her eggs. She then spins J silk bag, puts her eggs in it and hang.s it from her web. The young hatch very soon, but there is no food in the sack so the young eat each other.. The strongest is the only one generally left. It breaks out of the cacoon and starts a new life by itself.. EXTRA--N. B. Have you heard the latest musica hit? Have you any idea where tc find it? The answers seemed to us so humorous we are printing them in the humor-column. The study that I like best is ancient history because we all love old people. The study that I do not like very well is English because of the writing "of themes and most of us can't afford to use so many pencils. I like the study of zoology or botany the best because it teaches us all about the living things of nature. In botany we learn about plants and m zoology we learn about animals. The first animal we studied about was the amoeba and the last one was the reptiles. \ The first plant that was taken up in botany was the spyrogyra and the last plant we studied was about trees and their bark .and different kinds of leaves. Neither team seemed to be making much headway the first half and at half time the score stood 5 to 3 "with McHenry on the large end of the score. When the second half came around Coach Stringer seemed to have put the pep ig our boys and from then on there was no doubt as to the outcome of the game. Sib Whiting starred for the Black and Orange with 3 field goals and ^ free throws. The shift in the line up at the half gave the McHenry boys a great deal better offence and it seemed as if this shift in the line up was the cause of our boys' great fight in the second half. Newman, the running guard, starred for the light weights by making 7 field goals and 5 free throws. Conway, our husky center, played an excellent game and made 3 field goals. The score at the end of the game stood 29 to 4 in favor of the Black and Orange of the McHenry high school.
