The St. Patrick's program and social time at St. Patrick's hall on Tuesday evening was enjoyed by a large crowd. The program was especially pleasing and brought forth many rounds of happy applause. At the close of the evening refreshments were served. A happy crowd of dancers enjoyed the masquerade dance held at the Polly Prim tavern on Tuesday evening of this week. The Plaindealer was unable to get the winners of prizes. The music was provided by A1 Noonan's Polly Prim orchestra whlch7 as usual, delighted the dancers. The snow storm which arrived Wednesday afternoon sort of put a crimp in our hopes for an early spring. There is consolation in the fact, however, 'OWN YOUR HOME" EXPOSITION WILL OPEN AT COLISEUM, CHICAGO. SATURDAY that old winter cannot remain with us much longer. The robins, which arrived last week, are sure to register a protest unless the weather man dishes up more sunshine and balmy breezes. Mrs. Gertrude M. Thelen of Elgin was granted a divorce from her husband, M. A. Thelen, on a charge of desertion,, by Judge William J. Fulton in the circuit court at Geneva, 111., last Thursday. The couple made their home in this city for a number of years. Since their separation a few years ago, Mrs. Thelen has made her home at Elgin where she is employed in the Watch factory While Mr. Thelen has resided in various parts of Mc- Menry and Lake counties. The St. Patrick's! supper, sale of fancy articles, rug's and other things, as sponsored by the members of the Ladies' Aid society at the M. E. church on Tuesday evening of this week did not bring out as large a crowd as had been anticipated. However, those who did avail themselves of this opportunity to be fed and entertained by this society were well repaid for turning out. The supper was just fine while those who took advantage of the sale, picked up some real bargains. Quite a number of the people in this community have already handed in their contribution to the Boy Scouts drive which is now in progress in McHenry county. Altho the McHenry quota has not as yet been reached the local chairman is confident that this pleasant situation will come to pass long before the end of the drive on the last day of this month. Contributions may be made at either of McHenry's two banks. It's a worthy cause and it should receive the support of our citi- ' A small army of carpenters, plumbers, brick layers, plasterers,* roofers, electricians, glazers, decorators, artists, landscape gardeners, and special i laborers are working in double shifts, night and day, to build the Fifth Annual "Own Your Home" Exposition which will be opened by Mayor Dever on Saturday (March 21st.) The bare cavern of the Coliseum will be transformed into a panorama of ^Weeping meadows, country roads, and .alluring suburban scenes and the visitors will walk in a fairyland of rose covered cottages, colorful old fashioned gardens and beautiful room interiors. This setting, designed to convince the public that home and home life is attractive, will be the background for hundreds of educational exhibits on the many phases of home buying and building. Expert advice, definite costs and instructive displays oh financing methods, fcommunity and city planning, real estate and contracting, building materials, heating and ventilating systems, plumbing equipment, gas and electrical appliances and labor saving devices, furniture, wall paper and decorations, landscape gardening and hundreds of other items that enter into the buying and building of the modern home have been assembled under th^ supervision of prominent professional and trade committees. The Exposition has been planned this year under a new strict Code of Ethics prepared with the assistance of some forty of the supporting national trade organizations and associations in the construction and allied trades, and the expert advice contained in this remarkable document, covering all phases of home building, will be forcibly brough to the attention of the Exposition visitors. In accordance with this Code, each Division of the Exposition, under the supervising committees, is co-operating in a campaign against unscrupulous contractors, poor construction practices and flimsy materials and equipment, by showing the public the right way to build a house. A house in the process of construction, presenting striking lessons in how a foundation should be laid, plumbing installed and showing the proper uses of various materials will be a feature of the Exposition. This program is designed to cut down on the enormous annual waste in residence construction. Nor is the Exposition confined to encouraging the buying and building of a new home but urges that homes already owned be renovated and modernized. Such a campaign, according to the committee of administration will increase the value of the property improved and greatly alter the appearance of our city streets. The recommendations of the Conference of the Construction and Al- ,lied Interests that has been called by the National association of Real Estate board to meet on March 25 and 26 of the Exposition week and confer on how to raise the standard of the American home built in the future will be the outstanding achievement of this year's Exposition. Non-selling community exhibits, assigned to the most attractive locations on the main aisles of the Coliseum, as well as the other various participating interests will stage special programs each day during the week. Saturday, March 21 will be mayor's day. Mayor Dever will be assisted by the Mayors of various suburban towns. The Exposition will be open on Sunday, but there will be no special program. Monday, March 23, will be architecture and Landscape Day; Tuesday, March 34th, will be "Better Furnishings" Day, and Electrical Industries Day; Wednesday, March 25, will be Evanston, North and North West and North Suburban Day and Concrete Products day; Thursday, March 26, will be Harvey, All Points South and South Suburban Day and Gas Appliances day. On Wednesday, March 25, and Thursday, March 26th, the Convention of the Allied Interests will also be held. Friday, March 27, will be Oak Park, Glen Ellyn, Elgin, DuPage County and All Points West Day and Aurora Day, and Saturday, March 28, the closing' day, will be Greater Chicago Day.
