The McHenry Fire truck made a run thru the city last Thursday evening and by so doing excited many of our citizens who rushed from their places of business and residences thinking that the truck was answering a call to a fire. Fortunately, this was not the case. Fred Schichella of Terra Cotta was assessed a fine of $10 and costs by Justice T. H. Brown of Woodstock one day last week on a charge of assault and battery. The complainant was Ambrose Demarco, a fellow workman. Both men claimed that the other struck first. Mrs. Minnie Miller wishes, in this public manner, to express her thanks to the volunteers who successfully combated the grass fire at her place last Saturday morning. She also wishes to publicly thank the members of the McHenry Fire department for their very prompt response to the call. Mesdames Jacob Justen, Math. Schneidand Stephenson. Lester Page, an employee of the Knox Motor Sales of this city, underwent an operation at the Passavant hospital in Chicago last Friday. The operation was made necessary thru an accident which befell the patient at the Knox garage a few days prior to his trip to the Chicago hospital. Reports are .that Mr. Page is getting along very nicely and that he will be able to return home very shortly. Complaints are again being made regarding the carelessness of small boys who have been shooting air rifles within the corporate limits of the city. Several windows have been broken as th# result of this practice and it is our understanding that officer Walsh has been notified to use his ollice in stopping the nuisance. Children with air gunjf do not realise it, but parents should point the dani an old and well-known resident of this county. On October 30, as Mr. Schaefer was returning from the Wauconda mill he slipped from his wagon and sustained injuries to his spine from which he never recovered. Realizing that he would not be able to longer superintend his farm he decided to move to McHenry and did. Through the kindness of Geo. B. Richards, circuit clerk of McHenry county, we obtain the following facts in regard to the work of that office. Since Jan. 1, 1900, there have been 485 instruments of all kinds filed as a part of the county records, the instruments so filed since Jan. 1st being 256 deeds, 103 releases, 103 mortgages 98 chattel mortgages and 25 miscellaneous instruments. It will appear from the above that there have begn 153 more deeds than real estate mortgages, which means that 152 sales of land in McHenry county haVe been made on a cash basis, and also the fact that 103 releases have been entered since that time, showing that as between mortgages and releases the result is a tie. Chattel mortgages are quite numerous for the reason that tenants are compelled to furnish security to the land owner. Very few judgment notes are being entered up now.
