The Department of Illinois has maintained since that time a Service Department in which men familiar with the various laws and regulations rega/ding disabled men, could give all their time toward the solution of the many" problems confronting the thousands of our comrades in Illinois, withr out regard to whether they wore members of the American Legion. During the years 1924 and' 1925, no aid was requested of the public toward maintenance of this Service Department other than through the sale of poppies. I'M Here are Some of the Things Your Purchase of a Poppy Helps in Doing 2141 veterans are in Illinois hospitals. Considerable time and effort is necessary in many cases to put thru compensation claims, and the mental condition of many of the claimants is such that they can give slight aid toward proving their own claims. Remember it might have been you instead of the other fellow. Help us help "the other fellow" by wearing a poppy. rtef stricken parents and widows find the American Legion a pillar of support wheiiihe Grim Reaper calls to his fold a man who served his country in time of war. The widow, the orphan, the destitute veteran himself, all are looked after by the American Legion without regard to whether he belongs to the organization. The claims of 15,000 veterans were given careful, personal attention by the American Legion of Illinois in 1925. The Legion does not help the "Gold Bricker." If a veteran has a claim against the government th&t is not a just one; the Legion is quick to tell him so. If the claim is just, the Legion will fight to the last ditch for the disabled man. Children of the Soldier's Orphans' Home, the American Legion believes that these children of our'unfortunate buddies deserve the care and education that will make them good citizens. . • t • ' ^ We have accepted the responsibility of this belief by a very direct and personal interest in their welfare and happiness.
