The original stockte which this name wis applied seems to have been a sort of smooth-legged, dranfflit-horse, rather tall for the bulk, and of a bright-bay color, with dark mane, tail, and legs. They have been crossed with the race horse; the present stock having mow gracefulness of form, lighter action, and le?» hulk of body than the old, bnt retaining the color and height--sixteen hands or upwards, and a weight of 1,200 to 1,300 pounds. These horses are bred to a great extent in Yorkshire, there being a great demand for them for the London market. They have also of late been considerably sought after from the continent, from France^ Belgium, 4bc. The breeders use the mares, and such stock as is of suitable age, but not marketable, to some ex tent in farm labor. They have more action than any other English horse of equal size. The Cleveland bay has been introduced into this country. Within a few vears several fine speci mens have been taken to Va. I pro cured, in 1859, a fine horse of this breed for Dr. J. R. Woods, of that State, and it is probable that a prttty extensive trial will be niaje In obtaining crosses ef the breed, with the view of produo* log valuable coach-horses." f ; 1..^.COCKCIt Boon*, AptlUMh, M* s Bonftrihet pursuant to adjournment Present full Board.. Insinuations are mads by his opponents to the contrary, but we have neither heard nor read of any well founded sus piclow. Any one who has any doubt, always could have had, can now have, and ever can have the privi lege of seeing the money counted, of examining records, voucher?, ball bonds and all, and satisfying himself. In a former article from a correspond ent of the Democrat, E. B. Smith of, Ridge field, one of the Trustees, was wholly exonerated from blame, as it Is termed, In reappointing John Bunker. Now Nemo exonerates Mr. Renicli, an other of the Trustees. Wc may there fore expect In the next Communication A. B. McConnell will be exonerated, and that it will be insisted, that Mr. Bunker appointed himself ami nobody is to blaihe. But as Nemo means no one, it follows that ne one it responsl ble for what Nemo says. In order to settle the Controversy, Mr. Bunker has called a Special Election for next Saturday and It is to be hoped far the credit of the town that if Mr. Bunker cannot be beaten without destroying the tickets left by Ill's friends at con venient places for voters to select from, we hope he will be successful, otherwise we have uo choice, only so that the business be well and: safely done. •' ^ • • • The last few days have been all that we could wish, and farmers are happy la common with the rest of mankind. Does Mrs. Tilton's late confession and the heralding thereof to the world, together with Bishop McCloskey's shame, add any thing, by way of refine ment to society, or to our belief in woman's virtue? If so we fail to see it. We say * woman's virtue," because love fot our mothers, sisters, wires and daughters has always taught us that by nature woman is virtuous aud that man alone is responsible for her down fall, that womau's modesty would prompt her to avoid all notoriety in connection with such damning scandal, but when we see the seeming greed of many wemeu to seek notoriety through such scandal and through other ways so closely ailed therewith, wo are led to befleve, that in our belief of woman*s virtue, and man's depravity we have done the latter injustice, and, that so many of these trnmgrewiom could not happen with the fault all on one side. Have these things always been so. or is this the onrgrowtb of the late deprture, viz; the, clamor for wo man's rights t Moonshiners are getting rather bold In their attacks upon our poultry yards, bnt we advise them te be a little more careftil, as they are being watched closely and cold lead may whisper in their ear closer than will be comforta ble, If people who have lost poultry meaB what they say. jpilces.
