' . -- j |i, DIWIPIKB CONVENTION, '•,A general meeting «f the Disciple* of Christ in Northeastern Illinois, con vened at Fort Ilill, Lake Couutv. on Friday, Oct. 11th, 1878, and continued over to the following Tuesday. This assembly proved to be a glorious re union of the scattered veterans of the cross who have waded through years of sore trials caused by a wolf having entered the flock, who succeeded in di viding and alienating the loving child ren of God throughout this district. This meeting was largely represent ed by the brotherhood from Lake and McHenry counties and the surrounding" community. Bro. W. R. Slater, Pastor of the church at Center, Wis., supplied the pulpit. Bro. Slater made himself known to his large audiences rs a straight forward, earnest, intelligent gospel preacher, dispensing to both saint and sinner their respective por tions In duo' season. One confession and baptism. After preaching services on Qaturdav p. m., in response to a call for a busi ness session, the brethren and sisters were requested to remain, Bro. H. T. Nettleton was called to the chair and A. R. Knox appointed secretary. The following preamble and resolu tions were preseufcd and unanimously adopted: Whereas, We have seen with deep regret resolutions passed at (what was termed) the regular quarterly meeting in Northeastern Illinois, commencing on the 13th of September last, touch ing the character of Bro. John Ayls- worth, Bro. A. R. Knox and wife, which we do hereby declare to be wicked, false and slauderoun in every particular. 1 Now, therefore, we, the Disciples of Christ in Northeastern Illinois do hereby affirm that Bro. John Aylsworth Bro. A. R. Knox and wife, have^our fullest confidence, as true and worthy followers of Christ, of many years standing in this district, who$# Chris- tain reputations are without stain. And we do. also, hereby dcclare that we have no confidence In one Wilson Collins, who has been tried and con» demned by three regular church tribu*' nals and one board of arbitrators.-^ Who has made sad havoc among us by* dividing our churches and bringing upon the brotherhood through this en tire region general disgrace. Resolved, That the proceedings of this convention with these resolutions be published in the Waukegan papers; also the secular naDer* of McHenry comity, and In the Ckrtetifin Standard^ Review, Christian. Evangelist and all those of our religious journals who have published the slander on these, our worthy brethren njid sister. a w T. NKTVMtiow, Chairman. 4L./K. Knox, Secretary.
