Hoy Son and of Emil Arnold, was read to tho Board and referred to the Com. on Claims. The Grand Jurors of the several towns were then selected. The committee on personal property reported that M. II. Underwood had made complaint that lie was assessed on cattle that were taxed in Iowa, making this a duplicate assessment and they would therefore recommend that said amount be deducted from his present assessment. On motion of Sup Cristy the Clerk was instructed to make said deduction. The committee appointed at July session to visit the towus'of Richmond and Burton in regard to granting as sistance to said towns to build bridges, made the following report which was read to the Board and explained by L. Barber, Chairman of sai<l commit tee, to-wit: " Mr. Chairman, and Oentlsmen of the Board of Supervisor--Your com mittee appointed in the Iticiimondaiid Burton Bridge matters, would respect fully submit the billowing report for your consideration: "We visited those towns on the 18th of July last and inspected the sites for .the bridges, referred to In the peti tions of the above named towns. The one in the town of Uichmond being known as the Solon Bridge, and the one in th# town of Burton as the Spring Grove Bridge, each being <jn the Nippersink Creek. "The Solon bridge is In an unsafe condition, has been condemned bjr the Itoad Commissioners and should be re built. It is a wooden structure, of one span, is M feet between the abutments, and lias been built 13 years. We found the water underneath four teet in depth, and the bridge 10J feet above the surface of the "stream. The ap proaches are easy, the north end being a Ixdd bank rising about ten feet above the bridge, tiie south end a llat but solid ground. We examined the rec ords of the Town Clerk aud Road Commissioner* to Hud the original cost of said bridge, but were unable to find the desired Information. "We found in the town clerk's rec ords the report of the road commis sioners made at the Auditor's meeting in March last, whereiu they estimated the amount necessary to be raised tor road and bridge purposes for the en suing year to he $1,000. Tliey also re ported a balance of funds ou hand of #011.70. We learned from Ihe (Com missioners' books the cost of a bridge located one mile below tho Solon bridge, across the same stream and known as Grain's bridge. Said bridge consists of one span of 80 fe^t. the total cost of which was about$li>20. It lias been built several years and to nil appearance is a suitable bridge for the location. One of the abutments only was slightly injured by the late freshet. We found the Spring Grove, bridge had been entirely swept away aud nothing hut the injured abutments remained. Distance betwoen etui of abulinents, 70 feet. The location for a bridge is a good one. Thi approaches are similar to the Solon bridge except that the high bank isytt the south end of the bridge. Burton Couiruls&ioavrs report a balance of funJs on hand of $70. We also learned from the Commis sioners of each of the above named towns, that the amounts prayed for In their respective petitions'wete not based upon any careful estimates or proposals, but simply a rough guess. And the actual costs, when practically determined might be more or less than asked for In said petitions. Your committee are ol the opinion that a suitable bridge can be built at Solon at an entire cost of from 11,400 to Hi,600. And the one at Spring Grove would doubtless cost the amount prayed for In their petition. All of which is respectfully submitted. Dated,"Woodstock. Sept. 13,1881. . T I.KSTKB DARHKR, ^ i ' > , l R . On motion of Sup. Cristy the report was accepted. Sup.
