Bounty and Pay, aad ordered to be printed. This bill was entitled: AA bill to amend the act entitled 'an act to Increase (tensions In certain cases,*11 approved June 18, 1874. The blll'reads as follows: uBe U enacted by the Senate and ITouac of Representative» of the United States of America in Cong-rent tntuem- hled. That the act of Congress approved JmiA eighteen. Anno Domini eighteen hundred and seventy-four, entitled 'An act to Increase {tensions in certain eases.1 be so construed as to include all soldiers and sailors whose arm or leg Is amputated so close below the elbow or tcn«e joint as to render the same so far oaetais as to praeticgjyy bring them within the previsions ot said act.11 The law referred to provides that those who have lost an arm at or above the elbow, or a leg at or above the ^ knee, shall receive t24 per mouth, pension. It is very evideut that many limbs wbleii have been amputated just below the kiiee or elbow are as useless as though the amputation had been made a little above those joints. It was therefore an unjust bill which be came a law in 1874, and the present Amendment, if it is passed, will correct the existing evil. It is an eminently just bill and will meet the approval of all honest citizens, and prove especially gratifying to the soldier. !-- ~" • *V• •l>Ay If-|r 'A- i* Trtb«t« of AfrectlaBf,-. ,^ " •i*M' "A'WiM besUtiful gift was'presented u'"t ."Stt.45 •P.- n. power vested in me by the ocmstitu- > united States, and in consideration do hereby grant- to said Fitc- From the MirenTo Ttennt>'inan, • TOICKOr tbrpkoplk Markxoo, Tr,!., Mnv 8, 1889 Mr. "Editor.--Dear Sir:--A* a Re publican I wish to «sv a few words to the true and faithful men of that party, and a word of warning to all. There Is scarcely anv branch of husbandry but what largely remunerates. * > In an es|»ccial manner is McHcnry county farmers blessed wltb many ad vantages. Our Father in Heaven ha.s given to us seasonable rains and fine weather for thn .growing of crops in seasons past, while in many other'lo calities the farms have been scorched by drought or inundated by floods. This state of things will not al ways continue, and it is for the interest of every agriculturalist to exert all his energies, to think and labor, that be may increase the world's supply and advance h's pecuniary circumstances. For several years, or from 1873 to 1880, farmers and all men engaged in business in this country felt the string ency of the times. Prices of nearly every commodity declined in price un til the products or husbandry did not pay for the production, and consequent ly many farmers with I urge families and help to employ did not realize enough from their lands to meet ex penses, and debts necessarily followed.
