Death of William McCoIlum. I)iRD:-»At his residence in Mcllenry, Ills., June 1st. IsWr, William MVCollum, aged tU years, 5 months and 10 (lavs. Deceased was born in West Virginia near StubenvHIe, Ohio, January 17th' 1801. He came witli his parents to Fairfield Co., Ohio, when lie was three years old, where he remained until the- summer of 1837. On the 25th day of December, 1829 he antl Katharine Roblnalt , Were joined in Wedlock's holy band, A tie that Ixnmd together'- Two trusting, loving henis as oneg Th.it death alone could sever. In 1837 they came to Illinois, accom panied bj* his two brothers, John and David, and pitched their tent upon the west bank of McCollum's Lake on the 14th day of July of that year. They had at tills time four children, Almira Samantlia, Peter and Satnuel. They camped in their wagons six weeks, un til they erected the first log house in this vicinity, and became its occupants. They here added to their family two tnoro children, George and, Margaret. Since they came here, two years later, these three brothers were joined by their brother George, and It is . from these four brothers that McCollum's Lake derives Its name. Now all are gone, John. George, David and William having passed away in the order their names are mentioned. It Is almost un precedented that a father enters upon his eighty-fourth year, and the young est mcmbn of a family of six children passes her 42d birthday ero death in vades the parental family circle, as has been the case here, this being the first death in the family. A log house , a part of which Is now standing on Samuel Sherman's place, was built by these brothers in 1S37. The varied changes in life and hard ships through which tills aged couple have passed since their advent into Illinois, reaching hack over a period of nearly half a century, we have neither time or space, to recount here. Suffice to say: the grand, crowning msult of NJ all culminates in their children and ;aiij »• / it 1grand-children who, without exception. i . i . i « . . . command tlie respect and esteem of all . . IT is a disgrace to our village that we have in our midst, aivy one, man, wo-> man or child, who has got so low as to steal and destroj' articles put in a Cemetery to ornament the restiivg place of our dead.
