Two men are kept fcwf at work covering these vltti col ored in ksanrl passing them to a man And a girl wiio are equally bu«y print ing t lie to with large .rolling hand pfeMes. Three of these II .tie squads are employed all the time. After the Saaall sheets of paper containing 200 printed stamps have dried enough they are sent L.to another room and gum Oted. The gum u*ed lor this purpose I* a peca«iar composition, m*de of the powder of dried potatoes and other Vegetables, mixed with water. After having been again dried, this time on little racks fanned by steam power for ftfeoul an hour, they are put between •heetsof pasteboard and pressed in hydraulic presses capable of applying a weight of 2,000 tons. The next thing is to cut the sheets in-two; each sneet, of course, when cut containing 100 stamp*. This is done by a girl, with a large pair of shears, cutting by hand being preferred to machinery, which would destroy too many stamps. They are then passed to another squad of workers who perforate the paper between the stamps. Next, they are pressed once more, and then packed and stowed away to be sent out to the various offices when ordered. If a sin gle stamp is torn or in any way muti lated, the whole sheet of 100 stamps is burned. Not less than 500,000 are said to be burned every week from this cause. The greatest care is taken in counting the sheets of stamps to guard against pilfering by the employes, and It Is said that during the past 20 years not a single sheet has been lost in this way. During the process of manufac turing the aheets are counted eleven times. • 4 Notice. To those that want Tubs, Vats, Hay Kacks.and any thine in my line of busi ness.
