VOLO, 111., May 3.1,188S, EDITOR PLAINOEALER.--A letter dated Decorah Iowa, Aurtl 26, Informs me Dr. Colemiu died April 21st, and was buried undef the charge of the G, A. R Masons and Odd Fellows. Forty years ago Dr, Coleman was a graduate, resided and practised medi­ cine in Motienry village and vicinity. I know a few yet left in McHenry that must remember him. Mr Conway waa a firm and «trong christian, therefore, death had IIO terrors for him but waa rather a welcome repose after a life well spent. The desease.l waa born in the County of Klikeoney, Ireland and was sixty six years of age. He came to this country !n 1866. and since that made thi* place his home. Mrs. Locke goes to McHeury to reside for the fa t ore. Miss Ada Sutton, of Volo, is visiting here with her sister, Mrs. Yerkes, Ada t« nursing a felon on her thumb. There was quite a number here from Cary and Crystal Lake on Friday even­ ing last, to attend the Literary, The four young children of A. G. Locke, of Chicago, with their nurse girl, spent s part of (last week here with the family of J. Helm. D. B. Sherwood and family, of Elgin, spent Sunday here, with J. A. Sher­ wood. At C. E. Cbapell's auction sa.'e of a carload of milch cows, on Monday of this week, cows sold en an average of 145 20 per head. J. A. Sherwood doue the talking. There Is a party from the Elgin watch factory camping up tbe river, and by all accounts they are having a high old time. Currer had delivered his fare­ well address and given his many friend* a last handshake, as he suppos­ ed, but bad only gone as far as Chicago when he was recalled by a telegram to preach the funeral sermon of Mrs, Henry Turner, whom death called after an-1 Illness of but three days. The im­ pressive services were held at the Presbyterian Church, where many sor­ rowing friends gathered to pay their last respects to all that was mortal of a lady who was respected and loved by all who knew her. Joslyn and has a Hr^e practice, and Judge will undoubtedly do bla best to help bim, to get the nomination. He has many friends throughout the county and the bar of this county acknowl­ edges his ability as an attorney. Judge O. H. Gllmore, the present In­ cumbent, was down last Monday. He desires to be reelected. He has many friends here. W« predict a lively fight over this office, as Judge Gilmore Is well and favorably known over the county, and Mr. Bar ies has some stal­ wart friends who will pulln some telling strokes for blm. The Msy parties this year anust hare gotten severely chilled. We see by bills posted that J. A Sherwood has gone to work sgaln at liis old business. He evidently has more ambition than prudence, as he Is tar from well. The garden work this week will necessai lly curtail the correspondence from this burgh. The carpenters and plasterers are putting tbe finishing touches to John Martin's store building. Our school Directors have received several applications for the poatilon of principal In our Union School. Mr. Paul has given In bis resignation to take effect at the close ef the present school year. He has been urged by hi? friends here to make a canvass for County Superintendent of schools. He would make a good *one. D. C. Mallory has been confined to his bed ror a week pa*t, with kidney disease and other complications. He has watchers through the night and Is very weak. Hopes are entertained of his recovery by his attending phy­ sician, Dr. C. C. Watson.1 Detective Benthusen has gone to Dakota with a requisition on the Gov ernor for a man whom he has tracked to that place, that atoie a harness tn Lake county, and shipped It by ex press to Minnesota, then becoming alarmed ordered by mall the harness shipped to Dakota. He telegraphed to the sheriff there to arrest the man who called for the harness.
