R. posts decorated the graves of 10,021 Union soldiers on Memorial Day. President Harrison has written .a letter to the effect that he hopes to be in Boston on the day of the G. A. R. parade Aug. 12. The quarter ending March 31, 1890, shows the number of G. A. K. posts to be 7,264, with an active membership of 893,- 809. The total amount expended for charity --within the posts «umwunted $221,035.56, lor the year ending March 81,1890.. National Eneampment Notes- The State House is to be elaborately decorated. Two thousand Now Hampshire veter- aus will attend the encampment. In and throughout Boston Aug. 12 wUl be made a general holiday. Four thousand Maine comrades will •take part in the grand parade. General Corse's old brigade will hold a reunion during encampment week. The Headquarters' train, Department of Indiana, will start from Indianapolis. The department officers of Wisconsin expect to leave Milwaukee for Boston August 8. The Department of Massachusetts will form the left of the line in the grand pa­ rade. Those who have not already done so should make immediate application for quarters. •. The National Union ex-Prisoners of War hold meetings August 13 and 14 in the State House. The crippled veterans will be formed in a division by themselves. They will be provided witb carriages and will ride in the rear of the Massachusetts depart­ ment. The Woman's Belief Corps of Massa­ chusetts has arranged for free luncheon daily to the delegates of the W. R. C. and G. A. R. encampment during the three days' session in Boston. U. S. Grant Post, No. 28, Department of Illinois, will be at home during the encampment week to all G. A. 8. men and frieuds. Headquarters of the post will be at Hotel Vendome. President Harrison will visit the en­ campment, accompanied by Secretary Tracy, Postmaster-General Wanamaker, and such others of the Cabinet as can leave Washington. The trip will be made on the Dispatch, in company with vessels of the North Atlantic squadron. Regarding railroad fares to the Nation­ al encampment, the latest arrangement is that time on pickets may be extended by applying at headquarters, but the maximum time allowed will be Sept. 30. Side trips from Boston can, of course, be taken, but the tickets are valid only on continuous trip to and from Boston, and no stop-over privilege will be allowed. Gov. Fifer, Congressman Hopkins and General Disten will be present at the en' campment of the soldiers and sailors of MeHenry Co. which will be held at Har­ vard Sept. 5 and 6. Several large tents have been secured and meals will be fur­ nished on the grounds. It is now expected that this will be the beht arranged and most largely attended meeting tjie asso­ ciation has ever held. H. Jewett for a return of the money paid for taxes on the sw% of lot 7, block 4, in the village of Algonquin, would beg leave to submit the following report on the matters before them: We have examined the matter and find that the whole ©f block 4 is owned by two parties who had paid the taxes on the whole of it, and this piece of land was occupied by a teuant, who waii also assessed for the same, and it was advertised and sold to E.C.
