Residents of May wood, River Forest and other suburbs along the Desplnines River have declared war agninst the wanton killing of song birds by hunters of Chicago who put in their Sundays in this way. Leo Kelsey is one of the first to be arrested. He was taken into cus tody recently by Game Warden Zim merman of Har.lein and will be arranged before Juitice Kendalls of Oak Park to day. It is charge^ that he killed twenty-five birds, mostly robins, thrush- and bobolinks. The hunters visit the woods along the stream in the hope of finding game, and, failing in this, turn their attention to the songsters. Landholders along the river in an at tempt to prevent the slaughter of the birds say thejr have posted signs to the effect that trespassing would not be al lowed and that in many instances the hunt ere have shown their contempt by shootin the signs to pieces. It would be well if game wardens would follow the same plan in all parts of the state. & New Telephone Service. Within two weeks patrons of overland limited train of the Northwestern will b.- enabled to telephone to any part of Chicago. Omaha and San Francisco. Arrangements have been made between the Northwestern railroad and the Chi cago Telephone Company for the in stallation of a telephone system where by a direct wire will be connected with the overland limited train and the cen tral exchanges in each of these cities. Lines will also be run from the ex changes in Omaha, Ogden, Sacramento and San Francisco to the railway sta tions and later other stations where the train stops will be connected. The con templated service has been designed to meet the needs of the business man who m*y wish to give instructions to his office, or who has business to transact along the route. A VALUABLE MEDICINE For Cough* and C'olds in Children. "I have not the least hesitancy fn recommending Chamberlain's Cough Remedy to all who are suffering from coughs or colds," says Chas. M. Cramer, Esq., a well known watch maker, of Colombo, Ceylon. "It has been some two years since the City Dispensary first called my attention to this valuable medicine and I have repeatedly used it and it has always been beneficial. Ij^ has cured me quickly of all chest cold#. It is especially effective for children and seldom takes more than one bottle to cure them of hoarsness. I hav/? per suaded many to try this valuable -medi cine, and they are all as well pleaded as myself over the results." For s^e by Julia A. Story and G. W. Besley. Conjuror's House. Mr. Stewart Edward White has 3 completed for The Saturday Evening Post, of Philadelphia, a stirring serial story of love and adventure in the Northwest. The tale is entitled Con juror's House: A Romance of the Free Forest. The scene is laid in an isolated outpost of the Hudson's Bay Company, and the characters are a devil-may-care young soldier of fortune, the old factor and his beautiful daughter. This faci- nating story will begin in The Saturday Evening Post for April 19. The same magazine announces for early publica tion one of the chief literary prizes of the year--a short serial by Gilbert Park er, author of The Right of Way. The Great Dismal Swamp Of Virginia is a breeding ground of Malaria germs. So is low,wet or marshy ground everywhere. These germs cause weakness, chills and fever, aches in the bones and muscles, and may induce/dan- gerous maladies. But Electric Bitters never fail to destroy them and cure malaria troubles. They will surely pre vent typhoid. "We tried many remedies for Malaria and Stomach and Liver troubles," writes John Charliston, of Byesville. O., "but never found any thing as good as Electric'Bitters." Try them. Only 50c. Julia A. 8tory guar antees satisfaction. Good For Rheumattftm. Last fall I was taken with a very se vere attack of muscular rheumatism which caused me great pain and annoy ance. After trying several prescrip tions and rheumatic cures, I decided to to use Chamberlain's Pain Balm, which I had seen advertised in the South Jer- seyman. After two appplications of this Remedy I was much better, and after using one bottle, was completely cured.--Sallie Harris, Salem|""""N>.^J. For sale by Julia A. Story and G. Bee^y. A Correction. "Two years ago, as a result of a se vere cold, I lost my voice," writes Dr. M. L. Scarbrousrh, of Hebron, Ohio, "then began an obstinate cough.
