Tea will be served. On Wednesday evening of last week the many friends of Harold Whiting agreeably surprised him at his home south of Ringwood. On Tuesday of last week Mrs. Mary Harrison received quite serious injuries from a fall. Although recovering slow- ly she is yet confined to her bed. On Saturday evening, April 12, the comedy drama "Uncle Rube" will be given in the Woodman hall under the auspices of the Universalist church. It is useless'to say t hat this will be a fine play and well worth hearing. We hope the house will be well filled and give Our McHenry lriends a warm welcome. On Saturday evening of next week, April 19, the Rev. A. H. Altfeld has promised t® give the people of Ring- wood another lecture on "The Jew and the Law. " Those who heard Mr. Alt feld's last lecture report it as being one of the best and most instructive of lec­ tures. SPRING (iROVE. (Too late for last week.) John Craine is steadily improving. Harry Sanborn of Genoa was a caller here Tuesday. Katie Nett of Wilmot visited friends here last week. Peter Bowers was attending to busi­ ness here Wednesday. Archie Wray will erect a large barn on his farm this spring. Mrs. F. Smith is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. Jack Carr. Mrs. Silas Pierce has rented the Lichty shop for her millinery business. Dick Oxtoby is having his barn moved back preparatory to starting the build­ ing of his house. Frank Orvis has closed school for a week's vacation and is fulfilling his duties as assessor. The Easter services Sunday evening were well rendered and a large number of people were present. John Cole and John Waspi started Tuesday night for Dakota where they will probably bay land. Miss Laura Lichty started school again Tuesday, having had vacation during the cold months. Mrs. John P. Vidrard is entertaining her daughter, Mrs. J. P. Gil$n and little daughter and nurse, of Chicago. Mr. Welch who recently purchased the Major Stevens place will build a new house and barn and make other needed improvements. Miss Julie Vidrard is stopping in Chi­ cago with her sisters, while attending school, and spends Saturday and Sun­ day at her home at Grass Lake. Mrs. Wm. Peacock is spending several days with her daughter, Mrs. James Neish. Her many friends here are de­ lighted at her being able to be out. Joseph Henry made a trip to Chicago lately and when he returns will occupy the Moss place at Dunns Lake which he has rented. We expect congratulations will be in order. Clara Stevens was home from Chi­ cago a few days. She is improving wonderfully in health and will remain short time longer in the city for further treatment. Election Tuesday resulted in the victory of the entire republican ticket as follows: A. Neish, town clerk; Burton Stevens, Assessor; Warren C. Moss, collector; Warren Cole and Ches­ ter Stevens, highway commissioners; ^Vm. Johonnot, justice of peace. Election of officers for this year was held Sunday in the M. E. Sunday school and resulted in Win. Johonnott being chosen as superintendent, Mrs. Geo. Gould as assistant superintendent, Alice Churchill as treasurer and organ­ ist and Mat tie Stevens as secretary. Chas. Riese has resigned his position here as station agent and will return to his former work in Chicago. Mr. Riess and family have made many friends during their stay here, and the children will be greatly missed in the school room where they have been such faith ful little helpers. Mesdames Robert Richardson and Jake Hauperish were at McHenry Fri­ day. Mrs. T. A. Abbott, daughter, Maud, and Mrs. Henry Hobart visited the windy city Friday. Quite a few from here attended the comedy drama "Uncle Rube" at Mc­ Henry Saturday evening. William Allen of Greenwood is again on the road with his little red wagon. He says he will make regular trips henceforth. Miss Sadie Marble visited at our school recently. Friday, April 25, is Arbor Day. Miss Tessie Connell has accepted a position as stenographer in E. E. Ar­ nold's office. "" Farmers are making rapid progress with their oat sowing and nearly all will be done seeding this week. Mrs. James Lang returned on Satur­ day last from a five weeks' stay at the St. Augustine hospital in Chicago and is greatly improved in heath. The Northwestern Rabbitry in this city was destroyed by fire early on Sat­ urday morning. 200 rabbits and a large number of cavies perished as a result of smoke, fire and water. James Lang and Mrs. Will Lang went to Chicago on Saturday to bring Mrs. James Lang home from the St. Augus- tina hospital where she had been receiv­ ing treatment for the past five weeks. M. F. Flemming, a son of M. R. Fleming who resides east-of this city re­ turned on Saturday from a year's stay at Ponoka, Canada. He will remain here a few days and then go to Indiana to take charge of his uncle's farm. By reports from the Cottage Hospital at Harvard we learn that Mrs. A. E. Boyce who underwent an operation there last week Thursday, is improving rapidly, and that she will soon be able to return home, which is pleasing news to her many friends in this city. Those who are in the horse-clipping business have had their hands full the past few weeks to keep up with their work as the "fad" has strnck nearly every horse owner in the city. There is no doubt but. that it is a good move as horses are easier cared tor and present a better appearance after the operation. D. F. Quinlan has moved the barn from the Robert Campbell lot onto the lot in the rear of his residence and is making many improvements in his resi deuce property. He has also moved the house and other buildings from the Campbell lot and is tilling up the old cellar and grading the lot which makes a decided improvement in the premises While Sol. Lnngman was driving up on Clay street on Monday morning the bit in one of the horses' mouths broke and a runaway resulted. Mr. Langman jumped from the wagon and escaped in­ jury while the team crossed the track rati up Main street to the park where they collided with the chain "and it was all over soon." Mrs. Chris Bremer drove out from Chicago Friday and will spend a couple of weeks in Emerald Park, daring which time they expect to have heir cottage built is located. Below is our address.
