Ben never fails to' send guests away satisfied. It was expected that a large number would attend the races at Pewaukee and two coaches were provided for the accommodation of Pistakee and Fox .Lake people Mooday, but there were not enough to fill one coach. It being quite a round-about way the journey consumes considerable time, and the leaving time being early, there is no chance to see both start and finish of the races without remaining over night. The first race in class A, Mon­ day, was won by Anita, of Nenah Lake; Aderyn, of Pine Lake, second, and our own Mavis coming in a close third. The latter boat led during the early part of the race but could not hold ont. There was a very light breeze and the winner just finished within the time limit of three hours. The race Tues­ day was declared off, there being no breeze whatever. International Village. Chas. Retzel spent Sunday at the Hunter cottage. F. H. Schau spent Sunday with his family at the hotel. The weather was unseasonably cool during the week over the state, except in the extreme southern portion where more nearly normal temperatures pre­ vailed. Heavy rains occurred the first of the we^k over most of the northern and central districts, and good, bene­ ficial showers fell in the southern dis­ trict. The latter part of the we4k was generally drier, making farm work pos­ sible; and plowing progressed rapidly, except in the north where very little has been done. Threshing is still in progress, though it is mostly finished in the southern, and is nearing completion in the central district. Corn is generally in very finev condi­ tion, but it is maturing very slowly in the northern half of the state, owing to continued cool and wet weather; and some lodging by high winds is reported in a few localities of the central district. Potatoes have suffered further injury by rotting; and, though the crop promises to be large, the quality will be only fair.
