There will be no "silver" tongues among the Democratic spell binders this year. • )>>< \ It is evident that the new heir to the \ Russian throne will never be troubled in * looking after his interests in Manchnria, The first guns of the coming cam- paign pan be heard occasionally in the distance. The fireing along the line is rather weak at present owing to lack of auranition in the Democratic camp. i Judge Parker thinks that one term : is enongb for any president to serve the people. There are others who think that one term wonld be more than enongh for ^certain gentleman to 00 copy the presidential chair. All boys and girls of school age shonld be placed under the care of an instructor this fall. It is your duty be fore God and man to see that your chil dren are given the advasta^es ©f athers; thus properly fitting them for life's battle. not attend school altho they are under sixteen years of age. Just why these); boys and girls are denied the privelege which is by all rights theirs we are at a loss to comprehend. There may be some excuse fur the struggling mnnerH to keep his boy out of school to assist him in the WQrk of harvesting and in the spring work. There may be some excuse for the mother to keep her daughter at home to assist in the house work. It may be that the family is poverty stricken and stands in need of the pittance that the child earns in working for others.' Iu most cases such excuses are unstable and will not stapd examination by the authorities. But, if the child works when ottt of school it is in much better circumstanc es than the child who is permitted t.o run the streets year in and year out? coming in daily contact with ievery- thing that is immoral and never getting a glimpse of the higher life that is open to all who avail themselves of the pres ent opportunities. Child labor during school days is cruel and criminal, but child idleness during school days is, under certain circum stances, more cruel and is a greater crime; a crime for which, the careless parents must eventnally answer. * Very tow Bates to Portland, Ore.; Seattle and Tmcoiimi, Wa»h„ Vancouver and . The circulars are out announcing the thirty-ninth rennion.of the Ninety-fifth Illinois infantry, which will be held at Nunda September 3. The regular day of the meeting would be on the 4th, but as that comes on Snuday the date has been changed to the 3rd. The circulars are now being sent to the comrades, and the responses indicate one of the largest reunions held in a number of yeari. Judge Wales W. Wood has received a personal letter from the secretary asking him to respond to the address of "wel come, which he will probably'do. . This regiment was raised in Boone and McHenry counties, and the annual gatherings have been of more than or dinary interest on account of this fact. RIVEft EXCURSIONS. Mabe The gasoline launch," "Navigator," will hereafter make regular daily trips to the Bay, leaving the Riverside land ing every day at 1:30 p. m. The McHenry county fair will be just what the people of the county are will ing to make it. No official, however enthusiastic and full of vim, can make it a success without the co-operation of the farthers. Do yon intend to do your share. • • ii i . THE CHILI) LABOR LAW. * 1 The law relating to child labot- is of minor importance in McHenry for there are few opportunities here for the employment of such labor, and where- ever such cases do exist it i§ thru the consent of the parents. There are a few who work during |the vacation months, but in every case the labor light and the child is probably better benefited than it would be in running about the streets. There are children in McHenry how ever, as well as in other towns, who do 38aBy John Smiths. In" Latin, John Smith ii Johanus Smith ins; in Italian, Giovanni Smithl or Fabbroni; in Spanish. A lawyer in a courtrckim may call a man a liar, scoundrel, villain or thief, and no one makes a complaint when court has adjourned. If a newspaper prints such reflections on a man's char acter there is a libel suit or a dead eui tor.
