Bacon, all of Ringwood, 111., have just returned from Tenstrike, Minn., where they went, May 30, with John R. Madison of Chicago for the purpose of looking at a large body of land of which Mr. Madi son is in part owner. While there, Mrs. R. F. Hanson, living four miles west of Tenstrike, while gathering greens in the woods near her home, suddenly came upon a black bear busily engaged in dining luxuriously on a 200-pound bog. Mrs. Hanson is said to be one of the beet rifle shots in Northern Minne sota, and seldom goes away from home without her Winchester and Bhe is as fearless as she is prepossessing. The lady didn't stand on ceremoney or wait for an introduction, but proceeded to at once get busy pumping lead into Mr. Bruin. She had bnt three charges in her rifle, all of which she planted about his bead and neck, but they were not sufficient to knock him out, so she ran home and reloaded her gun and hastened back, but found that the bear had re treated deep into some heavy cedar tim ber, but Mrs. Hanson {/luckily followed him 500 yards, and after plunking in four more balls, gave Mr. Bear his qui etus. It took five strong men to drag the bear out of the woods, and he was estimated to weigh between 500 and 600 pounds. Mrs. Hanson is a lady of ordi nary size, and but 23 years old. Messrs. Howe and Bacon speak in .tones of high est praise of the soil, climate and gen eral condition of the Red Lake region The Messrs. Howe bought 500 acres and Mr. Bacon got a fine quarter section on a beautiful lake. The bear was killed only a mile from the land bought by Howe and Bacon. They were all pre sented frith a choice lot of bear steaksj which they brought home with them and Mrs. Hanson did Mr. Bacon the honor to present him with one of the bear's paws, which, cut off at the wrist joint, weighed two and one-half pounds. -> - 5 , ,*«!» Very Low Katea to Baltimore, Hd., Via the North-Western JLine, for tickets to be sold July 1, 2 and 8, with favora ble return limits, on account of Interna tional Christian Endeavor Convention, Choice of'routes from Chicago.
