Sabel was called to Chicago last week by the serious illuess of her son, Jobu. His condition is very much improved at present. Harry, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs, Frank Hironitnu*, had the misfortune to fall and break his arm. Under the care of Dr C. H Fegers tbe little fellow doing nicely. Vo'o bad quite a fire excitement Fri day afternoon, when it was discovered that tbe hay in an imuienne barn on the Robt. Paddock farm bad taken fire. Tbe smoke was discovered by Ray Paddock, who is working the faim Tbe Wauconda and Grayslake fire de part men ts were telephoned for after Mr Paddock and his hired help had worked for nearly three hours in a vain effort to stop the spread of the fire. Men from all around the country came to help and at once commenced taking hay out of tbe barn, but it was not until daylight Saturday morning that they reached tbe fire, which was abont three feet from the floor. As soon as air reached the part which was smouldering tbe flames burst out in all directions and had it not been for the two fire departments noth iag could have been saved. The only cause of the fire was the beating of the alfalfa which had been put in when not quit^ dry, and there is no means of knowing bow long it had been smould ering Mr. Paddock considers himself very lucky, for ball tbe barn caught fire the bouse conld hardly have been saved Many of tbe men worked from 8 o'clock in tbe afternoon nntil 4:80 the next morning. Several of tbe little friends of Pearl Hougbwout gave ber a surprise. It was her birthday. A jolly, happy time was bad by all who had the honor of an invitation. Mrs. E. B. Smith and Miss Mabel Skinner attended the interment of Mrs. G. W. Baird of Elgin, which took place at Greenwood. Mrs. Baird was a friend and a neighbor.
