Sutton of this place, and at one time a resident of this vicinity, but now an Alabama farmer, is living in fear of his life and will return North soon if the Crackers, who have warned him to leave the country under penalty of death, do not let up. Mr. Sutton left Elgin for the South about two years ago. A few months after his arrival there a northern man appeared in the community and located near Sntton. The two natur­ ally became companions and it was found that the newcomer was some­ what aggressive. He became* involved in controversies. Both received threat ening letters and several warnings were posted on their premises to leave at once. Two weeks ago an old woman residing in the neighborhood told Sutton that an organization was being formed to drive them from the country. Last week when returning from the conntry postoffice he was fired at from ambush and two bullets passed close to him. He could hear the sing of each bullet as it cut the air. He lost no time in get­ ting home and securing his rifle. Soon afterward he learned that they bad way­ laid and killed the other northern man in his own dooryard.
