The matter has been agi tatted fer several years and the Commercial club lias been induced to take the matter up and will consult with the boat owners and water power owners in Carpentersville, Algonquin and McHenry that the work may be uniform. Herman Kind has been at thev towns mentioned and the parties interested he^ve promised that if the Elgin boat o'where and others would erect a proper lock at the dam here they wonld do the same at each of the towns between El­ gin and Fox lake. This would give El­ gin a water highway and, woald induce hundreds to visit the city^ooming and going by means of the river. Secretary Terhune states that those interested have promised a considerable portion of the necessary money and that there is every prospect that the work will have been completed this fall. Members of the club are anxious to establish connections by water as well as by rail with the upriver towns. It is the intention to call a meeting within the near future of all interested and to have competent engineers examine the dams with a view of 'putting in the locks with the least expense and in the manner possible.
