As a jndge he has won the respect of the people and the lawyers. SIMON STOFFEL Insurance Agent for all classes of property in the best Companies West McHenry, Illinois law. He has won the respect of the bar, not through favoritism, but because they have found him to be a fair man, determined to administer the law with out regard to consequences. Dnring his first term of office he has been called upou to decide many im portant cases and it has been the opinion of litigants and lawyers tbat he has al ways been just and impartial. He is a man who by nature is of a judicial tem perament, being absolutely fearless, and with unswerving honesty, able and efficient, yet courteous and kind to mem bers of the bar and litigants alike. As a lawyer in the practice of his pro fession he has always been open and fair, never resorting to tricks, and tries his cases on their merits and wins them by argument and skillful presentation of facts, never asking anything but a just verdict and fair decision. Of Judge Smiley's early life we need say but little, as we presume the people of this county are acquainted with hi* early history. Suffice it to say that since he was ten years old he has had to make his own way in the world; there was no one to smooth his path and make it clear and easy. His has been nothing but a struggle from the beginning, and he has had to work for everything he haH achieved. He has not waited for oppor tunity to knock at his door, but haH gone out and made the opportunity. He is one who has taken and given hard blows in the battles of life. He has struggled hard to know his profession and is a shining example of a self made man. Judge Smiley has acquitted himself on the bench with such great ability that when he is not holding court at home he has often been invited to Chi cago to hear important common law cases and probate matters, especially intricate special assessment cases in volving millions of dollars of property. The experience he has received from the hearing of these important matters has been a great benefit to him when cases involving similar legal propositions have come up in his own court in this county, and thereby increased hie efficiency and usefulness to his own constituents. The many estimable qualities Judge Smiley possesses, together with his ex perience at the bar and on the bench, make him an ideal judge, and the people of this county cannot afford to be de prived of hia services in this important office. "(tig Charlie" a Prime Favorite Among Voter* «>f the County. The Woodstock Republican in speak ing of the content fotrTIie Republican nomination for county treasurer says: The nomination of Clmrles Wandrack for county treasurer, to Huccend W. H McConnell. seems as certain as that pri mary day will come. He has hosts of friends in all parts of the comity, who are giving hiiu loyal support, and his sterling honesty, his unfailing good natnre ami pleasant greeting to all, makes him an extremely popular candidate. He has served the people faithfnlly and honestly for four years in the office of sherilT, and besides, has always worked for and voted the straight Re publican ticket as nominated. A young Republican of Dorr ex pressed the feeling of many when he said a few days ago: "We are all for 'Big Charlie.' " Republicans who believe in party loyalty have not forgotten that two years ago, wh»n Mr. Wandrack was working to help elect all the Republican nominees, the Shurtleff-Crissey crowd at Marengo was out with big knives cutting great holes in the straight Re publican ticket, and trying to electa Democratic governor, -and that they were afterwards heard to, boast of their efforts and the result.
