Arthur Bickler of River Forest was the guest of home folks the first of the wegk. Miss Jennie Miller was among those to board the Chicago train last Friday morning. Vernon Jones passed a recent day as the guest of his mother at North Crys­ tal Lake. James Lincoln, a former McHenry boy, has opened a restaurant at Faulk- ton, S. D. Mrs. D. G. Wells and son, Glenn, are passing the week among Chicago relatives. George Jones of North Crystal Lake passed Monday as the guest of McHen­ ry friends. Miss Mabel Granger passed Monday evening as the guest of North Crystal Lake friends. L. F. Block attended to matters of a business nature in the metropolitan city Tuesday. Irving Watson of Chicago passed the first of the week as the guest of Mc­ Henry friends. Misses Maude and Fannie Granger passed last week as the guests of Chi­ cago relatives. Nick and Miss Gertrude Van Dyke and Nick Stoffel of Humphrey, Neb., arrived in McHenry last week for a two months' visit among relatives in McHenry and vicinity. Mrs. Geo. Mix, daughter, May, and son, Harold, and Mrs. A. Mooney and daughter, Sarah, of Chicago passed a few days) last week at the home of Mr. and Mri. John Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. P. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Doherty anu Mrs. J. F. Claxton and daughter, Lelah, are spending the week end with Chicago friends. Misses Clara and Julia StolTel were among the Chicago passengers Wed­ nesday morning. Mrs. Stacia Knox are passing the day at the county seat. John Larsen of Chicago passed a couple of days last week as the guest of McHenry friends. John R. Brente passed a few days last week as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Lee at Medford, Wis. Miss Pearl Hutson and W. B. and Hoyt Morris of Woodstock spent New Year's and Monday at the Claxton home. Mr. and Mrs. James N. Savler of Silverlake, Wis., passed Sunday and Monday at the home of the latter's mqther, Mrs. E. S. Wheeler. They were accompanied home by Miss Ella Mollohan, who will pass the week as their guest. J. H. Walton of Round Lake, 111., was in town last Saturday and made this office a pleasant call. THIRTY-SEVENTH CONVENTION OF ILLINOIS STATE DAIRYMEN'S ASSO­ CIATION. Programs will be out this week for the thirty-seventh annual convention of the Illinois State Dairymen's asso­ ciation to be held in Elgin Jan. 16-19. A treat which visitors can easily en­ joy is attendance at a meeting of the Elgin board of trade Monday afternoon, Jan. 16. In the evening Dean Russell of the Wisconsin Agricultural college will give a lecture dealing with the economic side of the tuberculosis prob­ lem. The formal opening of the conven­ tion will take place Tuesday morning, Jan. 17. There will be an address of welcome and response, the annual ad­ dress of President L. N. Wiggins and an address by Prof. W. J. Fraser, chief of dairy department, University of Illi­ nois, on "Systems of Dairy Farming." An address by S. 6. Shilling of Chi­ cago Tuesday afternoon, "Practical Dairy Suggestions;" an address by H. J. Credicott, formerly government but­ ter inspector in Chicago, on "necessity of quality and buying cream on grade" and by H. G. Van Pelt, in charge of dairy extension work in Iowa, will make up the Tuesday afternoon pro­ gram. Mr. Van Pelt is an authority on the dairy type, of cows and will use animals from the exhibit to illustrate his address. Wednesday mprning is to be given over to a lecture by Dr. Peters of the State Board of Livestock Commission­ ers of Illinois. Dr. Peters will discuss diseases of the udder and will present many illustrations to emphasize his points. At the Wednesday afternoon session J. E. Dorm an, editor of Prairie Farm­ er, will discuss "Silos and Ensilage;" A. J. Glover of Ft. Atkinson, Wis., "The Relation of Milk Production to Fertility," and W. W. Marple of Mun- cie, Ind., the "The Care of Milk." Wednesday evening's program will be interesting, Dean Davenport of the Illinois College of Agriculture will lec­ ture on the needs of the college. There will also be addresses by Hon. C. J. Lindley of Greenville, 111., and others. Speaker Shurtleff will be invited to attend the convention and speak to the members. On Thursday morning the tubercu­ losis demonstration will be the event that should attract the dairymen. On Thursday afternoon J. P. MVson and others will speak and a business ses­ sion will close the convention. The exhibit space for cattle is filled and that for machinery and supplies as well. Tomorrow (Friday) evening two of the most important games of basket ball of the season will be pulled off at the city hall in this village. The con­ testants will be the boys' and girls' teams of the Woodstock and McHenry high schools. Woodstock has always been well up in school athletic sports and the teams come to McHenry to­ morrow night with a clean slate, not having lost a game this season. The visitors will be opposed by teams hav­ ing equally as good a record and red hot contests may be looked for. The winning of these two games will place a great deal of confidence into our boys and girls and it will probably mean the championship of the county to Mc­ Henry. All the local boys and girls ask of the public is a good turn out and they will do the rest. Now let's show them that our hearts are in the right place by giving them a packed house. DANCE AT JOHNSBURGH. A big New Year dance will take place at Smith's hall at Johnsburgh on Wednesday evening, January 11. The event promises to be an excep­ tionally enjoyable one and the propri­ etor is making arrangements to enter­ tain one of the largest crowds that ever gathered at this popular dancing resort.
