A pleasant day is in store for you at The Great McHenry County Fair. Be sure to attend at least one day. The Executive Board and Depart ment Superintendents of the McHenry County Fair had a meeting last Fri day to make final arrangements for a record breaking Fair next week. I The secretary outlined the program prepared by him for the waek of the Pair, which was approved by the board. Each superintendent of departments was called upon for a report and all reported bright prospects for a suc cessful Fair. Dr. V/. W. Lichty, superintendent of speed, reported much interest In tho speed department, especially In the local county races. The two year old race which is to be pulled off Wednesday has six entries from Har- xl and two from Woodstock. The entries for this race were closed Aug. 1. All of the professional races are being nicely filled. G. E. Still, superintendent of priv ileges reported splendid progress in his department. He is engaging tal ent of all kinds to amuse a Fair crowd. The privileges and concessions of all kinds are eagerly being taken up, which indicates that people other than tho Fair management are an ticipating a big Fair. These people are required to make a deposit In order to reserve space for their con cessions, and the fact that they are coming to the front in great numbers to reserve their space is an indication of their faith in McHenry county's great fair. •The poultry department under the supervision of E. L. Hayes is going to have a great rejuvenation. For several years this department has been going back, but under the able management of this new superintend ent, who is also the secretary of the Woodstock Poultry Show, exhibitors Familiar Views at the Great McHenry Co. In the cattle department under the supervision of C. A. Dunham, there will be a great competition for prizes especially in the Holstein class. This popular class of dairy cattle is being extensively raised in our county. Some of the finest registered animals have been bought in the Eastern states and abroad in the last few years and some of this stock will be here for competition of the prizes offered by the Fair. The sheep and swine departments are going to be well filled. The horse department under the direction of William Gruenwaid of Cary will have a large number of entries of the finest imported and domestic stallions and mares. Many entries are already in and many more have been heard from that will be entered before Fair time. In the afternoon the officers and J superintendents proceeded to the Fair i grounds. Here everything was found | to be In fine shape. The Woman's building, which was a wreck at the j last meeting of the board, was found to he on a new and substantial foun- J dation and straightened up in good shape. The agricultural hall had a new floor put in it which was badly j needed. All of the buildings had been re- | paired and cleaned up under the di- j rection of Dr. Lichty, the general su- [ perintendent. The work was done by George Moore, who has proven himself the best man ever employed by the Fair association for this work. J Every stall and pen in the horse and cattle barns and hog and sheep barns presents a neat and tidy appearance. J It is many years since the grounds j and buildings have been in better, shape. | It was decided to have all the buildings platted and to have every stall and pen numbered to correspond with the plat in order to make the handling of stock easier for superin tendents and to avoid confusion. The race track is in splendid condi tion. A new harrow was purchased this summer and the general super intendent has had men and teams working at different periods during the summer to keep the track in con dition. When the board adjourned the gen eral feeling prevailed that we are ready for a groat Fair.
