Rowland, of Elgin, on Friday evening last and was indeed . „ a rich literary treat. Dr. Rowland is a ,*•' i pleasant, easy speaker, and handled his - subject in a manner both pleasing and instructive to all. The next lecture ; will be given by Prof. Somers of Fort Atkinson, Wis., On Friday evening Dec. SO, and will be one of the most interest- Ing of the course. Subject, "The Pre- Historic Races of America." No one , , Should fail to hear it. The McHenry high school basket ball team made a trip to Lake Geneva, Wis., last Friday evening, where they met the local high school five. The game was played in the Y. M. C. A. building and was attended by a comparatively small crowd. The McHenry boys were In excel lent trim for the contest and started their basket shooting right off the jump. Lake Geneva tried their hard est to keep the score down, but it seemed to no avail, as the home boys seemed to shoot a basket at will. The Bonslett brothers, Francis and Edward, proved the big gtms for the Illinois boys, the former making ten field and three free throws, while the latter piled up seven field and one free throw. Our boys played a fast, cleSn game of ball, their team work standing out more prominently than on their first appearance here at home and if they continue to improve as the season goes on we predict that the boys will not come very far from winning the county championship. Lake Geneva played a reasonably good game, but they did not seem to be able to break up McHenry's fast team work, which accounts for the fact that, the orange and black succeeded in running up a score of fifty-one points, while the Badger state boys had but eighteen points to their credit. The line-up and score of the game follows: Lake Geneva (18) McHenry (51) Peterson, Stauffer L F F. Bonslett Rich R F E.JBonslett Tyrrell C Petesch Bashaw L G G. Owing to the fact that we were un able to get the line-ups and scores of the two games played in the McHenry gym on Friday evening, Dec. 4, for last week's issue, we publish same this w^ek, as follows: : * } • m SCHOOL NOTES ITEMS PERTAINING TO OUR EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION Richmond (4) Willians Steinberg Speaker Howden Benton Reynolds Rossing R F L F C RG LG Sub Sub McHenry (27) Justen L. Seventh grade pupil: "Tlie colonist recognized George III. as the rightful souvenir." Home rule in Mr. Nye's room has been suspended. It did not prove very successful. Lopen Martin, Leon Dodge and Harry Stephenson were high school visitors last week. The boys of the American history class put it over the girls in a history debate last Friday. Current events were discussed this week by Edward Buss, Frank Justen and Francis Herbes. The plane geometry class has been struggling very faithfully with some hard corollaries the past week. Great battle on Friday evening be tween senior-junior and sophomore- freshmen girls. Come and see it. Now that the pupils have bought and paid for the radiators for the gym we get no heat on practise nights. The boys' team is the fastest ever turned out of this school since the days of Larsen, McOmber and other stars. School will close on Wednesday of next week for the holidays and will open again on Monday after New Year's. In coming up stairs the other day a freshman lost control of his feet and went skidding down stairs on his ear. He ought to join a circus. "What are you going to do after you leave school?" Senior: "Qh, I'm going to teach domestic science to my children." ^The high school pupils are working very hard on coin purses, bill folds, hand bags, etc. Wonder what they will put in them when they get them finished? QUALITY LUMBER MEANS ECONOMY these days because it elimi nates a lot of hand labor on the part of the carpenter and enables him to do a larger day'a work. Par ticularly is this true of our finishing lumber and floor ing. By having it smoothly dressed right at the mill, where they are equipped with machines that permit of a speed of 200 lineal feet a minute, the best results are obtained at the mini mum cost. There are a lot of new wrinkles used these days in the manufacture of lumber, which bring the actual cost of home building down to rock bottom, and the effects gained by the use of different woods are truly wonderful.
