All roads lead to the McHenry county fair, Woodstock, Aug. 24-27, inclusive. You auto go. Miss Britt of Chicago spent a days this and last week as a guest in the home of Dr. Arnold Mueller. A few from out of town attended the funeral of John A. Smith, which took place here Wednesday morning. Miss Britt of Chicago was the guest of honor at a swimming party given hy Mrs. Fred Diethorn last Saturday, Mrs, Elizabeth Nett is still quite feeble, but her many friepds here hope that she may soon recover her strength and health. Our residents are taking unusual pride in their lawns this year. Johns- burgli has as well kept lawns as may be found anywhere. The farmers in this vicinity are wearing a most discouraged look these days. Ail on account of the rain and cool weather. Mrs. Mathias Jungen recently had her tonsils removed at the Harvard hospital. At the present time she is feeling much improved. Dr. Arnold Mueller and Joe Kline caught eighty fish in two hours' time last Thursday. This is some catch to make in such a short* space of time. A few from here attended the ball game at McHenry last Sunday. A number are also planning to go down next Sunday, when the fast Liberty- ville team, meets the McHenry Sox for a side bet of $100. Two of our residents were arrested and fined at McHenry one day recently for not going around one of the guide posts right. ^Needless to say that they haven't any too much love for McHenry's officer*, who made the ar­ rest.. Mrs. Jacob Miller entertained Miss Britt and Mrs. Fillman on Sun­ day evening. Miss Britt was the nurse in care of Mrs. Miller during her re­ cent severe illness and she was much pleased to see her patient getting along so nicely. ' Dr. Arnold Mueller drove to Mc­ Henry one day recently and invited his friend, G. E. Schoel, for a little ride on his motorcycle. The trip to Johnsburgh was made in exactly six minutes. Reports from McHenry are to the effect that Gus is still a trifle pale from the effects of the ride. RINGWOOD Mrs. Emma Brown is visiting her sister at Lake Geneva, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Allen drove to Chicago Monday to visit friends for a few days. Remember the W. C. T. U. meeting at Mrs. Cora Flandeys' Saturday of this week. Miss Sarah Hodge and father of Solon Mills visited at Edson Hodge's last Tuesday. C. E. Hawley and wife and Mrs. Callie Rainey drove to Elgin Thurs­ day forenoon last. H. M. Stephenson jmd wife attend­ ed the band concert at Woodstock last Thursday evening. The Ladies' Aid society will serve supper at the home of Mrs. Inga Merchant on Thursday evening. Harry Stephenson and Floyd Howe returned Saturday forenoon from their trip to the Pacific coast. Mrs. Luella Stephenson entertained the Social Wheel last Thursday. All spent a very pleasant afternoon. Mrs. Grace McCannon entertained a number of lady friends Saturday in honor of Mrs. Mildred Munshaw. Roy Westerman, wife and children of Barrington visited at C. E. Haw ley's Saturday night and Sunday. The Sunday school picnic last Wed­ nesday was well attended. One hun­ dred and fifty sat down to dinner. The attendance at the Sunday schools last Sunday was: Green­ wood, 67; Ringwood, 48. Let every­ body help to make up our deficiency. Mrs. Mildred Munshaw of Eau Claire, Wis., has been visiting at Mrs. Grace McCannon's for a few days. On Saturday her husband and father joined her and on Sunday her broth­ er, Frank Lawson, of Elgin came up and spent the day with thextt. Davis and family visited Sunday with Warren Francisco and sister. >...•« The Kaiser family enjoyed a visit from some Chicago friends several days last week. Miss Lizzie Umberthum of Wood­ stock visited at ths Kaiser home a part of last week. Mrs. Nina Sherman and family spent a day last week with her par- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hobart. Frank Martin and family certainly enjoy riding in a Reo car. The proof is they have recently purchased then- second one of this make^. William Thomas and wife were guests of their daughter, Mrs. Hazel Belcher, in Woodstock from Satur­ day until Monday evening. Farmers have their hands pretty full just now, corn plowing, haying- arid harvesting. Those that hir e barley have that harvest at hand end oats turning. Elbert Thomas and wife motored to Belvidere Saturday last. Warren Thomas and wife came over from Woodstock and helped look after the farm affairs during their absence. R. H. Richardson received a dis­ patch from h|s sister, Mrs. Dimon, last Saturday saying that his mother was very sick at Mrs. Dimon's home and for some of the children to come immediately. On Sunday morning her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Thompson, left for Isa­ bel, S. D., to help care for her. Won't you come, too? Fish Laws All Waters in McHenry, Lake and Boone counties are state fish pre­ serves. It is unlawful to take, cap­ ture or kill any kind of fish in any manner other than hooks and lines. It is unlawful tp sell any black bass, pike or pickerel taken from the waters of this state. No minnow seine can be used that is over 20 feet in length and must be of one-quarter inch mesh and must be used to take only such as are com­ monly known as minnows. No limit on size of fish if caught with pole and line held in the hand Frogs over one-quarter pound shall not be caught or killed with any de­ vice during May and June of each year. No fishing within 100 feet of any dam across any streams. Shooting, spearing^ snaring, gig or using an artificial light in taking fish is strictly prohibited in all waters of this state. Ed. L. Hoy Bankin McHENRY, In Honor of Grandson ft Iras a merry little crowd that was entertained at the Wilkins home on the Fox river last Thursday even ing. The party was given in honor of Gilbert Brown, a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Wilkins, and a cadet at the naval academy at Annapolis The home proved to be an ideal place for the merry-making. The spacious, well lighted porch seemed to bid a welcome to all passers-by. After a few hours of pleasant diversion, a de­ licious luncheon was partaken of. Only such capable host and hostess as Mr. and Mrs. Wilkins could accom­ plish what they did in the way of en­ tertaining. The jokes and jests of Mr. McOmber afforded great mirth at the table. Those who were present are as follows: Dr. F. J. Aicher, John Larsen, Gilbert Brown, Mervin Kent, Chris Burkhartsmeier, Everett Hunt­ er, William Bickler, Annabelle Hei- mer, Marion McOmber, Julia Freund, Laura Barbian, Misses Bean and Fleishman.
