All stock building are undergoing a thoro process of renovation. They will be whitewashed, thoroly disin fected and dipping tanks will be placed for the protection of stock exhibitors. There will be absolutely no danger in bringing stock to the McHenry county fair this year. The recent outbreaks of foot and mouth disease are far from McHenry coun ty. The county is perfectly free from the disease and we consider it per fectly safe for stockmen to bring their stock. The new outbreaks have occurred only where the hog cholera serum from the Chicago Serum com pany was used. McHenry county has been free from cholera all spring and summer, consequently no cholera serum has been used in the county. A washing platform is being built, which will prove a great convenience to the stockmen. Considerable fault has been found in the past about this small matter and it is being remedied now. The fair this year has better promise of showing a better stock exhibit in all departments than for years past. Local stockmen are tak ing greater and renewed interest in showing this year and especially is this true in the cattle department, where they have established amateur and professional classes, and also great interest is shown in the horse and hog classes. A parade of all the prize stock will take place on the race track Thurs day and Friday mornings at 11:00 a. m. This exhibition of prize stock will be one of the big attractions at the fair and everyone should keep in mind the time and plan to see it. This can be best viewed from the grand stand, for which there is no charge during the forenoon. At a meeting of the officers, super intendents and committeemen held on Saturday, August 14, reports were received from all parts of the county and surrounding territory. All of these reports were very favorable for the fair and the opinion was unarn- ' mous that a live interest had been created in this year's fair and that if the weather would only prove favor able the fair next week will prove the best exhibition ever held for McHen ry county. Too much cannot be said regarding the machinery exhibit. No man ever worked harder for the interests of the fair than Wm. C. Bartelt, who has this department in charge and he has succeeded in contracting the • largest displays of all types of farm machinery ever secured. He has also secured a complete automobile show for fair patrons. Sixteen prominent automobile manufacturers are exhib iting three to five cars each and the new demonstrator models are bound to attract a large attendance. Sev eral modern farm tractors, suitable for the average sized farm, will be on exhibit; also small engines for running corn and grain binders and ^ the modern elevator for loading corn pr*; direct from the binder to the wagon. ah the space in the buildings is !|^ already practically taken and to gether with the large interior ex hibits all the buildings will be filled. For the first time in years the din ing will be open to furnish good meals. An excellent caterer has been secured to take over this privilege and build up the dining hall situation at the McHenry county fair. He is also engaged for the Lake county and Walworth county fairs and will serve good meals and serve them at popu iar prices. Mr. Thomas A. Stevens of Crystal Lake will exhibit one of his famous saddle horses on Thursday and Fri day afternoons at 2:30 p. m. on the race traok in front of the grand stand. This horse has won several blue ribbons and is an excellent per former in her line. This attraction is well worth your attention and will be one of the most graceful perform ances ever shown on our grounds. Another important feature in con nection with the fair this year will be the exhibit of the McHenry Coun ty Soil Improvement association which will consist of the different types of soil of the county, suitable fertilizers, new varieties of corn oats and alfalfa, seed inoculators feeds and several other things of importance in modern method's of farming. This tent will also be ar ranged to accommodate about 200 persons, who may care to listen to •speakers on such subjects as Domes tis Science, Farm Management, Corn Growing, Feeding Stock and Milk Testing. Among the speakers japll be Miss Brooks, University of Illi nois; Professor Jas. Moore, Madison Wisconsin; T. M. Small, Auburn Illinois; F. C. Grannis, Joliet, Itlinios and other noted speakers on agricul tural subjects. ' We heartily endorse the McHenry eonnty fair this year and urge every one that can possibly go to attend thig exposition next week. We know you will be well paid for the time and money spent. It will educational and instructive as well as : Blnaauratf) f to all ClaSSCS. - t ' r^T 7;. '• . fc . v* jiL k •' ' i - Council Rooms, Aug. 16, 1915. Conway Last Sunday &• iffe •fe m - - CONWAY FAMILY REUNION A Conway family reunion, the sec ond of the kind to be held in recent years, took place at the pleasant country home of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Conway, who reside south of town, last Sunday. The day could not have been a more pleasant one for the happy oc casion and at the noon hour when the quests sat down to the heavily laden tables, which had been tastefully ar ranged ' on the spacious lawn at the Conway home, it was found that for ty-two were present to enjoy the event. , The dinner consisted of all the seasonable good things and that it was highly enjoyed by those gathered goes without saying. The afternoon was passed with games, singing and visiting. A ball game, between the Barreville team and a club composed of Irish Prairie boys, was enjoyed by all, the Irish boys winning the contest by a score of 12 to 5. Various other games were also played, while James and Mike Conway caused np end of laughter and merriment when they appeared waiters and served the guests with ice cream. Our informant did not state just what their costumes were, but we are sure that Mike will give out the information for the ask ing. In the evening a sumptuous supper was partaken of, after which the guests departed for their various homes, feeling that they had enjoyed one of the most pleasant times of their lives. V. McAllister Wonderful Performing Lions There are some wonderful lions with the Sparks circus that will ex hibit here on Friday, August 27, at the Herbes grounds. They are not only of amazing size and beauty, but they have been trained to do some of the most thrilling acts eVer presented to an audience. Herr Fritz Brun- ner, the world's greatest lion tamer, was born and raised in the jungles of equatorial Africa and from childhood was accustomed to hear the roars of the man-eating kings of the forest that prowled about his cabin at night. His father once captured some lion cubs, which he trained to aid him in his hunting expeditions. Thus reared the boy naturally became a lion tamer and hunter. Selecting some cubs of the largest species known, he reared them and educated them to perform feats that would illustrate t& ,amazing strength and agility of these beasts. During the performance of the Sparks shows a group of these mons ter animals will be turned loose in a great steel enclosure in full view of the audience. Herr Brunner will en ter this enclosure, unarmed, and put these lions thru some astonishing performances. It is the most thrill ing act of the kind ever seen and will never be forgotten by the beholder Like every other act and feature presented with the Sparks shoWs it is far away from and superior to anything of the kind ever seen be fore. There are numerous other trained animal acts, in which tigers, leop ards, hyenas, tremendous elephants, eet., will obey the commands of their fearless masters. r BE H Cn JL ••V*.
