' On account of a derailment of two engines at Williams Bay, Wis., early last Thursday morning, the Chicago bound trains fare about an hour and a half late at this station that morn­ ing- * C. W. Stenger is driving a new six- cylinder Willys-Knight touring car, purchased thru the Overton & Cowen agency on the West Side The car is one of the handsomest to appear on our streets this spring. Our village streets will again stand for some much needed repairs this spring. With the heavy traffic of the summer months it just seems an im­ possibility to keep them in the condi­ tion that they should be. Louis Block of this village was con­ firmed in Immanuel's church at Dun­ dee Sunday. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Block, Messrs. and Mesdames F. W. Voeltz and A. J. Kamholz attended the services. Cashier Carl W. Stegner, of the West McHenry State bank, received the sad news last week announcing the death of his auht; Mrs. Eva Stenger, which occurred at Stevens Point, Wis., on Tuesday, March 27. Jos. W. Freund, the West Side clothier, moved his family to his home op Fox river in the north end of town the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Freund have occupied the flat over the store for a period of twenty- two years. . Math. Freund, the Pearl street horseshoer and implement dealer, reports a number of large sales of late. We understand that he has sold a number of threshing otitfits and other larger farm implements during the past few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Buss, foftner McHenry residents, who during the past several ypars have made their home, at Terra Cotta, have gone to the home of their daughter, Mrs. Geo. ' egener, near Lily Lake, where they expect to reside in the future. The local exchange of the McHenry County Independent Telephone com­ pany, which was recently taken over by the New Area line, was closed last Saturday. The patrons, we are told, are now being served thru the Chi­ cago Telephone company exchange here. x The two county seat papers, the Republican and Sentinel, have consoli­ dated and beginning this week both papers will be issued from the of­ fice of the Sentinel. The Sentinel will appear on Tuesdays, while the Repub­ lican will be issued Friday of each week. %Mrs. R. B. Walsh underwent a slight operation upon her nose at the Evunston hospital one day last week and her many friends here will be pleased to know that same was very successful and that she is rapidly re­ covering from the effects of "the opr elation. Carpenters are at work remodeling the interior of the William Bonslett residence on Waukegan street. A modem kitchen htfs been attractively arranged for light ^nd convenience and many other im­ provements have altered the original plan of the parental homestead. On account of the changes that are now undergoing the John R. Knox building, there will be no more roller skating in McHenry. The young folks of McHenry and vicinity will receive this bit of news with a feeling of re­ gret, as the place has been such a popular one during the winter months. H. L. Fisher and family this week vacated the John Justen house on the corner of Elm street an^ Maple ave­ nue to make their home in the Buch house on John street, on the West Side. Mr. and Mrs. Math. Schaefer, who formerly lived in the Buch house, have moved into -the Edmund Knox house at thet east end of Waukegan street, until recently occupied by Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Goodell. R. Smith, residing south­ east of this village, shows every prospect of becoming another first- class dairyman.
