Ad mission 25 and 15 cents. Red Cross Notes The new posters should appeal to the majority. Many faithful workers are busy with home tasks for the wounded and suffering. Fifteen per cent of the population here should be enrolled in the Red Cross society. The meeting on Friday was well at tended and many garments turned in for inspection. More sewing machines are needed. Two machines are not sufficient to carry on the work at meetings. The purchasing committee has or dered ten jK>unds more of the knitting yarn. The supply will be here for Friday. Word is received that a sufficient supply of sponges have been received. Speed up work on hospital shirts and sweaters. Exact measurements for the frac ture pads have been sent and these will be made in connection with the regular work Friday. The flag made and donated by the governor's wife, Mrs. Lowden, was won by Menard county for securing the greatest number of members. Has some one an old bureau that, they would loan to the society for use in the workroom? As it is material must be carried back and forth fiuni meetings. So many of the ladies are anxious to knit garments that it is almost im- posible for the knitting committee to give instructions to all. Will some experienced knitters please attend the meetings and take up the work of instructing others? A New Vehicle One of the most inspiring sights that the people of McHenry have wit nessed in many years was given them ftist Monday by Fred Justen, the well known landlord of the tavern which bears his name. Mr. Justen drove the full length of our city in a strange looking craft, attached to the faithful animal which has pulled our milk wagon for years. Men and women gazed in hwe and smaller children ran shreiking to their hiding places. In order to satisfy the curiosity of the adults and to quiet the fear of the children we. will give the history of this magnificent vehicle. It is a combination Rickey, made from some of the most historic wood in the world. Hie body of this Rickey was taken from the platform that was used at the coronation of Henry VIII., the wheels are made from the tree which stood on the battle field of Waterloo and was pierced by the guns of the Duke of Wellington, and the shafts were taken from the bow of the May flower. It was built in 1824 and was used at the inauguration of Andrew Jackson to convey him from the white house to the capitol. At a great per sonal sacrifice Mr. Justen has secured this Rickey and will build a beautiful marble temple, where the people of McHenry may view this treasure to their heart's content.
