Charles Westmont has been spend­ ing several days in the C. L. Osborn home. Mrs. Mary Walker of Lake Geneva, Wis., is visiting in the C. L. Haldeman and R. R. Turner homes. Mr. and Mrs. Frank McAssey of Richmond were Sunday callers in the home of Mrs E. S. Johonnott. . Mrs. A. C. Merrell spent several days the past week as the guest of her mother, Mrs. Traw, at Hebron. Mrs. Martin Young and children went to Austin, Minn., for an extended visit with Mr. ad Mrs. John Dampman. Robert Sutton returned Saturday evening from Mason City, la., where he has been visiting his sister, Mrs. Bert Brown. Mr.v and Mrs. Vivian Esh and family and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Yanke and son, James, were entertained' in the home of Mrs. Hannah Yanke. John R. Knox returned Wednesday from a trip thru the east. Among the cities of interest visited were New York and Washington, D. C. George C. Yanke departed Wednes­ day morning for Jefferson Barracks, "Mo., where he will receive training as an ambulance driver in the United States service. Mrs. Emily Wellman, Miss Bird Hodge and Mrs. A. W. Simms of Chinook, Montana, spent a day recent­ ly in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Beck at Richmond. by his wife, formerly Miss Myrtle Harnden of Barrington, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Klein of Crystal Lake, also three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Ray McMillan of ,thif place, Gertrude, Clara, Arthur, Will­ iam and Fred of Crystal Lake. The funeral was held from his late«=toome at Crystal Lake yesterday (Wednes­ day). The sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of all in their bereave­ ment. Christmas candies to suit every taste at C. Bull Valley school has three pupils under six years of age and all mak­ ing their marks. Our school is progressing nicely under the tutorship of "Miss Went- worth of West McHenry. Wednesday morning R. H. Richard­ son commenced husking corn again after a four day feeze up. Harris brothers have their husker at Will Blake's and husk^corn when the weather will permit. No corfT husking since last week Friday. They are now waiting for warmer weather. The corn is soft and a quantity of it is moldy. There is no good corn to fatten hogs. The latest news from Mrs. Kaiser was that she was a trifle better, but quite flighty. She has a fear that her children have all been murdered. Time will erace that idea it is hoped. VOLO Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Vasey have moved onto the Turner place. Dr. and Wru W f!non of W»UCOhda were callers here Wednesday. Dr. D. G. Wells of McHenry was a professional caller here Wednesday. Miss Effie Gilbert of Wauconda spent Saturday at the Russell home. John Kirwan of Peoria, 111., visited his brother, James, here the past week. Mr, and Mrs. Clyde Wright were Wauconda* callers Thursday of last week. A number from Wauconda were over Friday night to the play at the M. E. i hurch. Miss Ella Moore attended the Auxiliary meeting at Mrs. W. Coon's last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Cushman autoed over from Round Lake Thursday last* and spent the day with Mrs. Kirwan and mother. TERRA COTTA - Geo. B. Frisby is numbered among the sick. Miss Mary Conway spent Friday last in McHenry. Thomas Phalin spent the week end with friends in Chicago. Mrs. Mary Grant was a Crystal Lake visitor Friday evening. Miss Clara Frisby spent FrMay evening with McHenry friends. Mr. and Mrs J. Klein^'a resident of this vicin­ ity a few years ago, died at his home in Crystal Lake Sunday evening, after an extended illness. Bring the little folks. Depot Agent C, W. Goodell left this week for a visit at his home in Elanor, Alabama. John Montgomery, tele­ graph operator, will fill the position during his absence. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Frett and daughter, Gertrude Louise, have closed their home for the winter months and will return in the spring. They will spend the winter in Chicago. Members of the M. W. W. will please take notice that the next reg­ ular meeting will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Weber, Main street, on Wednesday evening, Dec. 19. There is some talk of organizing a company of Home Guards in this vil­ lage. A number of other towns the size of McHenry and even smaller have already organized and there isn't a reason why this village should be a back number in this respect. In a letter written by Stephen G. Adams of this village, who is now down at Camp Logan, Texas, he tells of a trip he recently enjoyed to the city of Houston. According to the tone of his letter Steve is perfectly satisfied with Texas, but adds that he expects to move shortly. Lecture at School Auditorium The third of the series of the lyceum course, held at the school auditorium on Saturday evening last, was not largely attended on account of the severe cold. However, those who at­ tended enjoyed the splendid lecture given by Jas. H. Shaw, an orator of marked ability.
