McHENRY, ILLINOIS Since the draft system o# the United States army showed the widespread defects in the physical condition of the moderti man, we have been awaketoed to the necessity of giving more thought to the surround ings of the child early ih life. There is no ma&> or woman in McHenry county Who would deliberately handicap their child in health, so the remedy- must be that of overcoming the tendency to rear the child with a "hit and miss" policy. Conscientious thought on this subject will be a good starter toward doing all we can to make the next generation more capable,. physically, to cope with its problems. Think over your child's day, from the'time he eats a hurried breakfast, before walking that mile and a half to school, until he sits down to supper" with you at seven in the evening. He sits on the hard seat, bending over his desk, for nearly three hours. When twelve o'clock comes he opens his lunch box to what? It may be a cold pancake or cold fried potatoes (such foods are not exceptions). A growing cKtyd needs more food to' his size than an a duplicate of your Sit down to it and! The teacher, too, is eating a cold lunch. During the noon - hour she cannot leave the school to go to a hot strengthening meal. For these reasons Miss Mary Pack, school lunch specialist from the University, is coming to the teachers' institute at Woodstock on August 28 to demonstrate to the teachers the value of the hot school lunch and to tell them what it has done in other communities to raise the physical standard of teachers and children. FORDSON TRACTORS HERE Are No* on Display at the Star Garage Here John R. Knox, the hustling proprietor of the Star garage in this village, who recently signed up for the atrency of the Fordson tractor, received his first shipment of this wonder labor-saving machine last Thursday, when a carload of' Pordson tractors arrived. These machines are now on display at the above mentioned garage an$ just as soon as the implements that go with the tractors are received he will be ready to make deliveries. Mr. Knox has secured the services of Richard Fleming, who started work on Monday morning of this week, and who is acting as special salesman for the tractor. Mr. Fleming is well qualified for the position that he has thus accepted and he is already on the job with a number of prospects. While interviewing Mr. Knox the first of the week, a Plaindealer reporter was told that the prospects are exceedingly bright for the sale of this wonderful machine thruout this territory and that he expects to start filling orders within a very short time. Those interested in the machine as well as the various farm implements that go with it are invited to call at the Star garage. The outfit will also be exhibited at the McHenry county fair next week. Read the large display advertisement which appears elsewhere in this week's issue of The Plaindealer. COUNTRY TEAM WINS Took Three-Game Series on Tuesday Night By 172 Pina \ SATURDAY. This was the third time that these two teams had met and up to Tues day evening they were working along a 5G-oO basis, each having copped one game. The rubber proved more exciting than the score would indicate, as each team had its backers there in goodly numbers, and the balance one can easily guess. The country team, by taking Tuesday night's game, now leads their city rivals by a total of 248 pins. The players and dbores of the last game follow: Country F. Thompson ..
